Challenge - Only Series 1 and 2?
-
Real shame, I dunno why ITV 4 doesn't repeat them, I see plenty of old shows on there.
Agreed Wombstar. ITV3 /4 seem to show the same few shows over and over again. I get a bit frustrated with their attitude to Knightmare. They seem determined to safeguard their rights (fair enough) but then never show any signs of televising it, even if no one else shows an interest in wanting to buy it from them.

This is indeed a frustration that I share. What be the use of rights, if absolutely nothing is done with them?
-
Does anyone have an email address for ITV that we could use to (politely!) ask them if they would reconsider showing Knightmare?

I think the difficulty you'll have is that Challenge may have the exclusive rights to show series 1 and 2 at the moment.

Well, things are being done with them. Challenge were recently licensed to show series 1 and 2, for example.
With that said, I suspect ITV are being penny-pinching.

Thanks for the email address Mystara. I'll give it a go.

I predict that the response, if any, will read:
Dear TimeMaster,
Thank you for your email.
At this time, we currently have no plans to reshow Knightmare.
Thank you for your interest.

I hope you're wrong Alan! Ha! I'm afraid that could be the response or something along those lines too.

Mystara - I'm sure that you are right! However, it's worth reminding ITV what a cracking show Knightmare is! I'll keep you all posted.

As expected you were all pretty much right with your predictions of the reply that I would receive from ITV. Here it is:
"Thank you for your email.
I can confirm your comments have been duly noted here at ITV Viewer Services.
We have no plans in our current schedule for the programme to return however all our schedules are subject to change.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to contact us here at ITV as we always welcome viewer’s feedback.
If we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us. "
Never mind!

It's actually quite scarily close to what I predicted.
-
It's good that you got a reply from ITV. I just can't help but think they could have been more open. The 'however all our schedules are subject to change' bit irks me. Regardless of whether their schedule will change, they won't show any series of Knightmare. They may show a episode or 2 when a special occasion arises i.e Old Skool weekend.
The best chance to see more series would be on Challenge I believe. I hope it's the same as last time when they showed a series (forgot which 1) then they eventually bought all the rest thanks to decent viewing figures and the fanbase.
-
On the other hand, it took them over a year to acquire a license to series 1 and 2.
Someone was dragging their feet.
-
Well, presumably any slowness will have been as a result of Challenge and ITV disagreeing over the value of the rights, so probably both of them to some extent.
I suspect that Challenge paid more than they wanted to, and so only purchased the rights to series 1 and 2.
-
Someone complained on Facebook that Challenge tend to only buy one or two series of a programme and repeat them to death; Challenge replied that they have to work on a budget and "we buy a couple of series of lots of things to add variety". Which is fair enough, but doesn't bode well for any more Knightmare while they're still repeating Series 1 and 2. On a possibly brighter note, when asked about getting more series of Fun House, they said "at the moment we aren't getting more but in the future we'd like to!", so let's hope that applies to Knightmare as well.

The recent announcement of the planned BBC Store (i.e. an online store where you can download to own archive BBC shows) hopefully points the way to other broadcasters. I don't think it's wildly speculative to imagine an ITV Store in the not too distant future where KM can be bought for keepsies without all the economic difficulties of a physical format release.
If this is planned though, repeating series on TV may reduce the value of the stock - a couple of taster series are good but you need to give people a reason to fork out.
Anyway, where's this extended geek week ep we were promised? There's an aching void in my Friday TV schedule!
