Meet up?
-
Definitely up for a meet up! Something halloweeny sounds right
-
Do we do it in the midlands so that it's in the middle?
-
Well... I hesitate to suggest this as it's had very little interest in the past but if you're wanting Halloween hijinx there's alwasy "The Road to Hell and Back". Generally a short-ish roadtrip to visit Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and Tulleys Farm during their Halloween events.
Ran this a few years ago but, I admit, it's kinda died a death unless someone wants to resurrect the idea...
-
As always, the rule in these things is...the person who organises the event calls the shots.
However, I would suggest that the following is likely to lead to a successful event:
-
Middle (ish) of the UK, but biassed towards London (sorry, but that's where most of the community are).
-
Single area/location. This is why I think the Road to Hell and Back was always limited. Most people would only go to the most geographically convenient location to them and you lose critical mass.
-
Halloween. It seems sufficiently far in advance and Halloween events are the most likely to drag most of the community out.
-
A whole weekend. In particular, including a non-theme park day with something else planned.
Traditionally, Blackpool trips have always been the most successful. Unfortunately, we did this only a year ago, so I wouldn't recommend it again.

I suggest a raft building exercise, or some other such group bonding event (no sniggering at the back, you know who you are!) I like team building events almost as much as I like eating flowers... But not nettles though, they sting a bit.
Now this is a GENIUS idea! Plus then we'd all have really fun memories!! (Just please don't do anything too huge with heights or I may have a breakdown, I'm massively hopeless with heights... as most of you probably remember me saying at some point)
-
It's been a week since there was any further discussion on this.
Can we perhaps have someone to mastermind such a meet up, to poll the community, find out what, when, and where would be best and then to organise something?
-
Ok let's get the ball rolling on this then.
How about a trip to Thorpe Park on dates loosely around Halloween? It is a place we have visited in the past and seems to remain a fairly popular destination.
If people could give feed back on that as the basic idea, we can build on the dates and perhaps organise a non-park day for the same weekend.
edit: I may as well throw in Alton Towers in there, as an alternate choice. That has also been popular in previous years.
-
Sounds good to me.
As mentioned previously, I would recommend making it a full-weekend event.
-
nods Ok I get that.
My interest here is trying to find an 'alternate attraction' day, one which is away from the Park. So far Alton Towers seems the better option for that.
The Peaks are nearby and have many areas for accommodation. If we were to stay in an area such as that, then it opens up the possibility of a role playing event with organised games. It has kinda been done before for a Murder Mystery night.
-
That sounds promising, plus with it being out of season, accommodation for the weekend would most likely be more reasonable.
It's a grand time of the year on the accommodation front. I know various places in the area which would be perfect for location and for gaming activities.
