I'm itching to get going on Series 6. I've done all the prep work I can, including the thoughtful and meticulous preparation of six scripts.

There's a special episode all about the Knightmare books in the works (i.e. it currently exists as an Audacity project on my laptop) and regular podcast recordings have now started back up.

I'm planning to record a successful playthrough of The Labyrinths of Fear quest section, as its potential winning paths are so incredibly narrow, and turn it into a Temporal Discussion special. (Martin will be grateful one Friday when he has nothing else ready to upload.)

This is probably a long shot, but are there any other quest sections from the Knightmare books that anyone would like to hear completed on the podcast? Maybe a playthrough of The Forbidden Gate (Quest for the Dragon's Egg) using a particular Skill?

I recently played The Forbidden Gate with some discord friends. I terrified them when I asked if they had a certain code word at the end, to which they said no. Thankfully that turned out to be a good thing because they won

I'd be up for Forbidden Gate! Good luck with Labyrinths of Fear, that one is insanely difficult.

Oh, cool, Amy! Was the codeword "Crossbones"? (The pirates turn up and take your egg, unless you have the Walk on Water spell so you can steal their ship.)

Would you like to nominate a particular Skill for me to choose when I do that playthrough? One that you think is pretty useless, maybe.

Podcast update: I'm editing Series 6 Episode 1 right now, and I'll soon be moving on to Episode 2.

Finally home, and I remember Trading being a pretty bad one, it only really let you get cheaper items. I think Gambling was a little better, but not by much

Yeah, with Gambling you have favourable odds with a series of die rolls to win your ship fare, which is never a path that's appealed to me. Trading only has one useful passage and you have to grab your one chance to turn to it very early on, but you can then buy some useful stuff and find a good winning path. If I get to pick between those two Skills, I'll do a playthrough with Trading.

Thanks very much for your input, Amy - it's got me enthused to do another playthrough. My Labyrinths of Fear playthrough will be the next podcast release (after the free release tomorrow of me and Kim on the first Book Special) and then we should be into the two Series 6 Episode 0s, then straight on to Series 6 Episodes 1 and 2. I finished making Episode 1 this evening.

This seems like a pertinent time and place to share some links again. You can find the free releases on Spotify here: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/knightmarepod/

These turn up on the website a few hours later: https://knightmarepod.co.uk/

Everything releases a week earlier on Patreon, usually with a 5-minute preview if you want to whet your appetite: https://www.patreon.com/knightmarepod

I'm helping out with the uploads to both of these platforms this season, so you can guarantee the episodes I make will always be released on time. (Which is 4pm every other Friday, of course.)

I just started editing Episode 2.

My successful playthrough of The Labyrinths of Fear is now available via the links above. Next time we really will be starting Series 6 (well, kind of!) with Episode 0 Part 1.

I have the novelisation of Hook too. 🙂

And I wasn't keen on the Addams Family film either - it lacked all the warmth of the TV series which I'd enjoyed on BBC2. (I haven't seen it since, so I've no idea how I would evaluate it as an adult, and admittedly I don't know which adaptation is more faithful to the source material.)

I'm with Martin O on the pronunciation, it's St BERnard unless you're American! (And I haven't heard it said otherwise in all my years of watching Crufts, either...)

I'm glad we're back to "normal" episodes now, and I have the first five episodes of Series 6 ready and scheduled for release. I'm currently editing a new TimeBusters special that will come directly after those.

Whilst some of the criticism in S06E01 is fair (and some is just a matter of opinion), Smirkenorff never flies in a circle in Series 6 - he always takes off from his nesting ledge (Paviland Cliff on the Gower) before landing at one of the castles elsewhere in Wales.

You know, I was seriously wondering whether I should include that thing about Smirkenorff going in a circle because I wasn't sure it ever really happened as a single continuous flight except for that one sequence in Series 5, but I'd already junked so much material that I knew to be inaccurate, I thought I'd better give this one the benefit of the (my) doubt. I'll make sure this gets mentioned on a future episode.

In the next episode I appeal to you specifically for your thoughts on something, Annie, so I hope you'll have some insights that can also be mentioned on the podcast in the near future. (I won't spoil the surprise now.)

I must admit to feeling a twinge of disappointment at how much Series 6 has been absolutely savaged on the recordings so far, but perhaps this will encourage me not to speak too scathingly about Series 7 and 8 when the time comes. Listen out for Amy on Episode 4 if you're looking forward to a touch of sunshine in the forecast.

I mean, it's possible that the helicopter took off from Llansteffan before filming the landing sequence there (I don't think we can tell one way or the other), but it's certainly not like in Series 5 when Smirky would visibly start and end the flight at Carreg Cennen Castle!

Well, that's got me intrigued for the next ep. 🙂

Series 6 is my favourite so I was quite looking forward to the podcast finally getting there, and I too was disappointed to hear all three hosts complaining about just about everything so far, but oh well!

Incidentally, since it was mentioned that they did a brilliant job of not showing the pylon that's behind the roundhouse, it's funny that the Spanish version chose to use a shot where it's entirely visible!

When I first visited the Chiltern Open Air Museum and took photos of the roundhouse for TES, I was absolutely flabbergasted to see that dirty great thing dominating Holmgarth in real life. Upon returning home and taking another look at my sixteen-year-old video of S6E1, I could see what a great job had been done to hide the pylon from us. You can tell how striking I found this because I put it in the script (or podcast outline, as I like to call them) for this episode of Temporal Discussion, all these years later.

Personally, I still found the S6/7 pookas terrifying as a child, even if they're not as creepy-looking as the earlier ones!

OMG, the Farthing Wood edit with the death chime. Imagine if they used that every time one of the animals snuffed it...

You ask me about the Hall of Choice like I've got a history of staring at castle walls to recognise stone patterns.... yeah OK, geeky as charged. I'm sure I did ponder this one at some point but failed to identify the source, and now it's going to bug me all over again! I agree that it's likely based on a real wall, rather than something they've painstakingly drawn themselves (and I bet they've used the putlog/joist holes to create the doorways). I think we can rule out certain castles that don't have the right shaped stones or have gaps between them, but after reviewing various photographs and screencaps I still can't find a positive match. I'll let you know if I ever do! (And if anyone else has far too much time on their hands and wants to figure it out, please let ME know...)

While we're on the subject of that room, it seems I'm the only person who was disappointed when a place of choice returned in Series 6! I liked it in Series 5 when they just quickly chose a quest in the antechamber and got on with it, starting somewhere different each time.

Pookas and stormgeists are among the "superficial changes" (as I call them on this episode of the podcast) that I thought "Oh, I wish they'd just kept that the same as in S4/5" when I first watched S6, but the moments of threat and tension they provide can still be pretty tense - I must remember to mention that sometime.

If Farthing Wood had done that, they'd have worn out the sound effect in Series 2. Rosey and I managed to think of (at least) thirteen named characters who snuffed it in the first sequel series, making an average of (at least) one death per episode.

Thanks for the stuff about the Hall of Choice - I'll definitely include some of that in a future episode. What do you think about the Scarborough Castle room (level 3 clue room) where the floor is taken from? The bricks in the walls seem to be packed together in the same way.
