Hey, I've just joined the forum but I've been reading the site on and off for a while.

Has anyone ever tried re-creating Knightmare themselves?

I'm considering trying it, just for fun of course.  I do Media Tech at uni so I have access to equipment needed.

Would there be any legal things in the way? I know it wouldn't be our show and we wouldn't treat it that way.  It'd be more of a tribute but if we made a really good job of it then I'd love to be able to show it to anyone who'd like to see it.

Hiya. Do you know of the Knightmare R.P.G, sir? This is something that has been done for several years now, and will hopefully continue for many more to come. This aims to recreate as close to a Knightmare playing format as possible over the chat-room. Teams, normally of KM Chat regulars or regular website visitors, volunteer themselves to play throughout the seasons, when they occur, and filming has been used through Realplayer at various points to incorporate as close a re-enactment as possible.

The next season (crosses fingers, and at a point, frowns  😠 ) should hopefully emerge this Autumn, and, I'd imagine, will be well publicised on this site. I can't speak as a first hand source, having only been present at this year's filming (due to be incorporated into the RPG Season 5 - September 2004), but I know personally cast members who were involved for Season 4 footage, and so am certain that this year's content should be fabulous.

As far as legalities go, the excellent Mr Kieran is the man to prep you on this score. As much as I do know, is that we do it with the knowledge and endorsement of Tim Child, and several of the original actors (whom I won't name or speak of specific involvements) are or have been interested in this and kept tabs on what we've (I should say 'they' - I'm only recently involved) done. I would imagine, sir - that what we do here is - 'exempted' from standard Copyright issues in a way - because it's attributed, acknowledged, consented and non-profitable / non-commercialised. I really shouldn't speak more on a topic I don't know too much about, but I hope that gives a slim basis of an answer for you.  🙂

That does sound really interesting, thanks for the info.

As well as just being a fan of game I'm interested in the technical as well so it's the challenge of producing something as authentic as possible that's got me all excited.  I'll definitely take a look at this RPG though, cheers.

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum, heh.

Well, I recreated it when I was younger using a blindfold for a helmet and made my friends 'advise' me round the perils of bins and bits of rubbish strewn across the floor...

But I assume you're talking about more sophisticated methods of re-creating the classic!

My brother and friend re-created the show by putting a a bucket on my head and using my mum's handbag for a knapsack then wandering around the garden filming it! I still have the tape somewhere.

              Hey.

Mr 'weevil' - not at all.. this is the perfect place to bring it up. I'm glad I've got you interested!! I got interested in the technical side of it too, while I was there. It's great how everything was done ourselves. The one shame is, that with most people having a 56k modem, to make the game flow and more accessible, the wonderful video quality has to be really condensed down into RealPlayer clips, to ensure downloading time is quick. Still - yes, I'm sure many of us have embarrassing and fun memories of playground and back garden Knightmare. They still happen!  😉

Myself and a few friends did film a Knightmare sequence of sorts as part of a short film project in college. It involved a dungeoneer wearing the original helmet(we have a replica) walking through our local woods facing challenges along the way, such as clues and over-acting enemies. It was done more for comical purposes I must admit.

Hey Emily. I totally agree. It's such a very, very special experience. One that definitely changed my life, I don't mind admitting. For all the RPG members, should I forget to mention it to you, the report has found some momentum again, and I'm hoping to have it completed within a fortnight, and that will hopefully complement the media that should be en route soon from our good director J.P.

In fact, the longer time passes, although more of the exact details of the shoot slip through my mind, I am ever more gratified inside by what the whole thing and its people have done and continue to do for me. I just want to add more and more all the time.

Well, if you should like some of my memories to add to it (ones that involve the whole crew, of course) you're more than welcome to pick my brains ^.^

Had a look at the RPG's site.  Not entirely sure how it works, who makes up the teams and where do they play from?

I posted in the developments forum at first, it was moved to here, so that's what I meant about wrong fourm

I've never seen the RPG in action before - I missed it in Autumn 2001 because I didn't have the internet at weekends (I went home from uni then) and the Autumn 2002 one never happened. Gah!

Me and my friends filmed a series of knightmare called 'Bad Dream' It involved, in turns, one of us to navigate the hostile back garden. A bucket and backpack were used as the knapsack and helmet. We then edited monsters and things using the paint program on his computer, it looked funny. I was the only one that won, after finding the 'sniff spell' and casting it on an imp (played by his 2 year old borhter) causing it to stumble backwards into a padling pool full of dirty water (which was later edited to look like bubbling acid) I then proceded onto finding the oriental rug. Templates for pits were blankets that were lated edited to look like black rectangles, and a swing ball tennis thing was the template for monsters to be edited on top of. It worked quite well, exept monsters were 2D and didnt move.

The shed monster was a laugh though, also the giants hand which was actually my hand close to the camcorder to meddle with the perspective

Life force was represented by water being poured out

of a homer simpson mug, which was later edited to look like a goblet

I have made a very crude version of knightmare on a site called http://www.habbohotel.co.uk.

If you want to play go on and send Steve.Strange a friend request ( Youll learn how to do this when u make your character)
