It's not even out of the planning stages yet, so all we have are a few preliminary pictures. We must await the true Knightmare before we can make any judgement on what is, and what isn't...

Perhaps they're working on stuff right now and as they're SOOOOOOOOOOOO busy making new Km stuff, they haven't been able to update us!

We've waitied a good 8-9 years for this series. I'm SURE that we can wait a while longer...

we don't want them making any silly little mistakes, or off-graphics, now, do we?

                From www.televirtual.com just posted

Televirtual has secured a £40k National Lottery funded media development grant to help relaunch it's classic children's TV adventure game, Knightmare.

The grant investment by SCREEN EAST means that the Norwich based company will be able to build a Virtual Reality demonstrator or real time pilot for the new version of the cult dungeon exploration show. A dramatised adventure game in which real children explored a compelling fantasy world, Knightmare regularly attracted audiences in excess of 5 million, and spawned foreign language versions across Europe. It was the most successful children's programme ever produced in the East of England. The show pioneered what are now called 'Virtual Studio' techniques, mixing real characters with computer hosted scenes via a Cromakey or blue-screen production.

For the new show, it's expected that the production will make the full transition into Virtual Reality, with actors and players appearing as 3D avatars or virtual humans. Knightmare creator and Televirtual founder Tim Child explained: 'whilst the new show will be retro, and hopefully recapture the atmosphere of it's predecessor, these proposed virtual production techniques are so radical that people will not really understand what to expect until they see the show. That's why we need to build the demonstrator to show potential broadcasters and distributors what we're planning. The investment by SCREEN EAST has now made this possible.'

This is very encouraging indeed!  🙂

The bit about people not really understanding what to expect until they see the show really strikes home here, too. We have, after all, seen a few static graphics. The closest to seeing an animated version is the TimeGate pilot. I'm sure that if we're lucky enough to be given access to an animated scenario, a lot of us unsure fans will be won over.

If anyone else had suggested this, I would have verbally shot them down for a whole variety of reasons. But, it being Tim, I thought about it some more.

In my opinion, Knightmare VR could have only two problems. Firstly, it will make the floor puzzle a thing of the past (unless you can blindfold the avatars?). Secondly, and more importantly, it violates the one guiding principle of all children's gameshows: kids want to be on TV. (If their avatars are, then surely they aren't?)

That said, I reserve judgement until I've seen it, of course. And I know that Tim Child can truly reproduce the original atmosphere and tension of the show. And I think that the viewer 'phone-in idea is an excellent way to involve the audience. But I honestly can't decide if I think that this is a good idea. So I will wait and see...

Also, I have written up a few ideas on why I liked Knightmare, and how I would have gone about bringing it back (9 and 7 pages). http://www.rjlee.dyndns.org/knightmare/

Plus, the Timegate trailer looks fantastic...

Hi rjlee, and welcome to the forum (notes first post) - how long have you been keeping track of all this then?

I agree with those points fully - the blindfold idea is certainly something to keep and floor puzzles also. Am noseying over to your site now.

Also, BVA - thanks very much for the update!

(Sorry if this is off-topic, but I was asked...)

Well, I'd like to say that I've been here since the beginning, but unfortunately I missed the first season of Knightmare because I didn't know it existed... Anyway, watched most of it the first time around and loved it to pieces.

Then a few years ago, I stumbled onto Knightmare.com (then knightmare.clara.net) and read great wadges of it with interest, and I just really came back to it last week just to see what had changed...
