    look every1,

sorry if I caused any offence- didn't think I offended anyone but I'd just like to apologise to those whom I offended.

I didn't mean it and am in no-way shape or form "anti-jew".

just a bit curious as to the jewish scull cap, but found the team rather funny.

    thankyou

I'm going to speak up in defence of djoska on this one.

It's fair to say that some of his remarks were politically-incorrect, and that made them jar a little at first, but if you analyse the actual meaning of them in the cold light of day, there was nothing particularly offensive in them. (I even thought the 'ed-jew-cating' pun was quite funny, if a bit cheesy.) The blaspheming remark was a bit closer to the mark, but even there I didn't see any hostility in it.

I'm Jewish by birth myself, by the way. (Non-practising.)

        thank you.

Its nice to see someone understands.

I felt quite embarassed when I got these PMs from the admin!!!

I'm not so bad really- just misunderstood i suppose. I was brought up in Norfolk so we find it harder to be PC.

Like I said, sorry for offending anyone and I hope I'm still accepted to you all.

Thanks for being so decent about this, djoska, especially given your public apology which is a lot more than others have done in the past. I think it only fair that I should be equally public.

Sometimes it's difficult or even impossible to understand how something could possibly cause offence to someone else. The mistake made is to assume that if it doesn't offend you, then it won't offend anyone. This is followed by ignoring another person's protests, or shouting them down. But this is, of course, not conducive to a diverse community - which this forum is. Sometimes, people do this because they're plain ignorant, or because they're here just to take the mickey. Unfortunately, this forum has seen both kinds of person. (Though I'm not accusing you of being either - this is just personal background experience.)

I personally didn't find the comments in question offensive. But it's not just about me; as a moderator, I have to take into account the feelings of every other member of the forum. Therefore, if someone expresses a concern, I must try to empathise. It does, I'm afraid, usually come down to a qualitative decision (unless it's a simple "if there's a banned profanity used in that post it must be edited out" case, for example, which is a clearcut yes/no matter) on whether it's a reasonable or unreasonable concern, but when I was chosen as a moderator, there was an implicit statement of trust in my judgement. I'm not infallible, of course, because I'm also human - but by being as open as I can and giving people a chance to appeal, I think that the risks of someone being excessively hard done by are sufficiently small that the system is as perfect as it can ever be.

I reasoned that a simple act of wording one's posts ever-so-slightly differently, and with a tiny bit more caution as to whether it could cause concern, was a reasonably small price to pay for everyone being happy - and the happiness of every single person on this forum is my top priority.

The fact that you have been willing to adopt this suggestion, coupled with the new posts you have made by way of apology, shows that you are also willing to empathise and accept reasonable requests which benefit the other members of this forum. In which case, please stick around for as long as you want, post lots and enjoy yourself!

You're welcome. As I say, since you've been public about this it's only fair that I do the same. There are no ivory towers here!

My other half's family are Jewish. He can't stand this particular team as they're, and I quote "bad stereotypes". But I guess you'll find them in every walk of life. I'm of Jamaican decent and I'm not keen on those "rude boy" types you find.
