It must have started where it always did, the Place of Choice
And Treguard surely introduced it after Pickle's voice
They must have stumbled slightly stepping on or off the disc
But being very early on in Level 1, no doubt there was no risk
They would have made the door and answered questions "False" or "True"
The calling never changed, and somehow Dooris always let them through
They would have made a pact and picked the eyeshield up
The usual prop, the usual act
And for so many watchers, oh the tedium is sheer
The year before Lord Fear
They would have had the Forest Often next: "of Dunn" I mean
While watchers sat at home and wondered why it wasn't green
They would have met Fatilla on the way to Level 2
And he would have called them dunger-thingies, but - guess what - they all got through
So down the well they go, to meet Gundrada and dodge blocks
A matter of routine, with Dunkley, Ariadne - oh, and stocks
The ferryboat again
Undoubtedly they would have paid in precious metal then
Oh yes, I know the quest had sameness coming out its ears
The year before Lord Fear
They would have used a calling name in Level 3, no higher
And then received a spell or two like TINY, BUT or FIRE
There would have been a floating face who wanted them to pledge
There's not, I think, a single seat on which a watcher's sitting on the edge
They would have had to get beyond the Corridor of Blades
Another door that weeps, oh how I'd like to see its life force fade
And then dismissed and out
What happened to their clipboards? I suppose there's loads about
It's funny how much was the same for every dungeoneer
The year before Lord Fear
And turning on the path
They would have walked away from Pickle, Treguard and the hearth
They tried a Christmas ending once but it did not endear
