Series 4 - Episode 15
-
Having just watched this episode for the first time in a while, it's also the first time I haven't mis-heard Dooris' question about Alexander the Great.
The question refers to a "knotty problem" and is a clear reference to Alexander cutting the Gordian Knot - but for the first 31 years of my life I've been hearing it as a "nutty problem" and was wondering what he had to do with nuts!

Hi Pooka,
That's really funny! A nut-cracker might be a more suitable clue-object for that, maybe?!
I always heard it as a 'knotted' problem, but then the sound and visuals were clearer in the studio anyway (those that weren't added in post-production).
Thanks for the comment,
Brett

The Knightmare board game riddle book, which has been available on this website for some time, includes the 'knotty problem' riddle as spoken by Dooris. Coincidentally for the second question asked to Team 4.8, it is Riddle 48 in Section 2.
Outside the Crazed Heifer an early pooka appears so quickly went into the Inn. Inside were quite a few people sitting at tables
The Crazed Heifer scene does indeed have quite a few people on screen. Even if we discount some of them as being prefilmed - the ones who don't react to Motley's joke - it could well be the highest number of live actors so far that Knightmare has put in the same scene.
It's good to see Michael Cule's 'fourth character' back at the inn. I've now noticed that Mistress Goody (or someone in her costume) appears in the Crazed Heifer in all three of its Series 4 appearances.
As for the lady in the red dress in the foreground, I've finally recognised it. It's Lillith's outfit. We know from Quest 6 of Series 2 that Lillith was partial to a drink.

That's a very impressive observation, i'd never really paid much attention to the extras here.
It's interesting how some of the costumes were recycled across several series.
Looking back Lillith was far from being the only character partial to a drinky. Knightmare wasn't exactly overrun with teetotalers. Great what they could put on kids tv back then. I wonder how much of it would pass the sensors these days....

In Dickon's quest, Motley says a member of the Opposition put him in the pillory for telling a saucy joke about "the three Assassins and the sorceress". Earlier in the episode he appears to be telling jokes to Mistress Goody in the background of the Crazed Heifer scene, so I like to think she's the one who took offence!
