People also register and then forget their password also, which so then some of them re-register under a different username. Some of the users are a bit too shy to comment on anything, which was the case with me when I first registered. It took me a while from the time I foung the website to the time I registered and then a while from the time I registered to my first post.

There is a 'Forgot Password' link on the log in page where your password can be e-mailed to you. I presume some people are not aware of that, or they are unable to access their e-mail. Hmm, that's a good one for the FAQ.  😉

I'm thinking perhaps if we had a 'Knewbie' board, this may encourage new users to start posting and introduce themselves and and any comments or questions. There are certainly a lot of lurkers about who read the forum regularly but never post.

      What do you tink?

I've noticed that a lot of forums have that. I've also noticed that when some people register they post a thread introducing themselves. They then get a whole load of feed back too to welcome them. I have also noticed the amount of members who do register and have no post count at all, some of which have been registered for many months. On the subject of lurkers I've noticed that some have logged in on a few occasions and have never posted. You begin to get familiar with the users who login and never post ever. I got to where when they were online I used to think something like 'that users online now, oh they wont post' or 'I bet they wont even post'.

I think that a Knewbie introduction and welcoming board will be a very good idea though.

I think A Knewbie board or subboard within the General section, or whatever, would be a nice touch. Now that we have an off topic forum we can afford to have such a board here without fear of it turning into a huge off-topic bandwidth eater. At the moment it's hard for people to know if they should introduce themselves or not.

On the people registering and disappearing point, I think Marge2003 raises a lot of the important points. Plus, of course, the fact that some people don't really want to post all the time, or develop other commitments, or just register to post a few things without any real intention of staying. As we've said before, people should feel free to post as much or as little on the subject as they wish.

Snowcat- I do hope too many people don't feel intimidated in the way you mention. I can't think of any occasions here really where anyone has been made to look a fool. Yes, occasionally people are corrected on certain things, but I hope that's only ever meant in a friendly way. As I and others have said before, everyone's contribution is welcomed here, whatever they choose to say and whatever the level of their KM recollections. In fairness, I don't think it's really constructive to refer to a section of posters here as "anoraks". Just as we all should watch not to make others look foolish, it's advisable for us to not throw such terms around.

Okay, I've just done a count of how many members have registered and have a post count of zero: Approx 130.

I will be creating a Knewbie board (on a trial basis) to see if that helps encourage new members to post. I will also send an e-mail out to those members to remind them of the forum, the knewbie board and details of how to recover a forgotton password.

              Hmm, let's see what happens

130 people with an account yet not said a word?  That is very very odd.  Uusually you see people sign up and at least make ONE post before vasnishing.

I have been away filming a London Knightmare film, so that is why I have been absent for a month!

                  Tut tut sir...

6 days in London! You were slumming it at my place half the time, let's admit it! Or is that too late? I can't be bothered to work it out.

I told my old tutor about the film - would you believe it - his brother lives on a boat in the Rotherhithe marina area. Meh. Just another of these strange coincidences popping up around each corner. Anyhow, the pink shirt is hung up at home, and being kept precious for whenever Jeremy might need it next.  ;D

Aye, it wasn't too long ago I did an accurate count of all the zero-posters, and couldn't remember the figures exactly, but I remember that it came to 31% of the total number of members - almost a third. Yeh, agree that it just takes some getting off the ground getting the first post across and all. I can't really remember mine, but I do remember that coming off the back of the RPG, I was in a good company who know who I was. Many don't have that privilege.

Hope we can spark off even just a couple of these folkes to join in the fun. I don't see there's anything wrong with not posting - but if there's a reason why people are frightened or nervous to say anything, then it's good to discover and rectify it if possible. Cheers to you, everyone!

James/DJ Shadow cough Zagor also had a good time at the London filiming for the weekend he was there.

As for posting on this forum, I only check back occasionally but still try my upmost to write something of sentimental value, mainly due to the fact that this time forum takes a while to load on my computer. Perhaps that's why there are as many zero posters as they are? Just a thought....

Well Kieran that is a good enough excuse! Especially when it involves Knightmare...

Hmm, that's a good point about slow loading - at home I have trouble getting to the forum. At busy times, IE gives up almost straight away ('This Page Cannot Be Displayed'). When I do get to it, it does take a while for refreshed pages to form. That may well be why people don't stay to post. I sometimes can't be bothered to check through for new posts because of the wait.

For me it's really slow and frustrating some days, yet fine on others. Those days when it does play up it's really really difficult to even catch up on what's been posted, let alone write anything.

That is one of the reasons why sometimes I am logged on for ages (sometimes hours), that and the fact of me forgetting to logout .

I still get those funny characters, where the page only partly loads but not as much lately. I sometimes view other pages while I'm waiting for the forum pages to finish loading, which is when it seams to do that most often! Anyone else experience that problem?

Hmm ok ok, there too! 🙂

Jeremy will no doubt come out again soon (I know he already did, but...ah forget it, nobody would understand the joke but you and Zagor!)   Speaking of which, Mr DJ....Will be sorting out an under 18's copy too methinks!

I will be keeping details of the film secret for a short while, as it will be a time beofre it is ready to be shown, but I sure hope even the people with zero posts will like it! 🙂

Losing log info on here is easy, as it is on any forum, Robin had to give in as he lost his info., it just happens.
