I'm very impressed so far with the 'new look' to the website & congratulations to all involved! One thing that will be good to update is the Video clips section, as nowadays with most of us having broadband & the likes of ''YouTube'' around, maybe some of the existing content from here could be uploaded onto there in better quality (than Real Media etc) along with some 'new' stuff too.

So, all in all it's looking good at the mo & keep up the good work folks!

You're looking at between 400 - 600 pounds per episode depending on what level of distribution you want (UK or global).

Just multiply it up per series or for the lot. There's no discount for bulk buying.

Those care the costs for each episode. All of the royalties are dealt with by the rights holders.

The other major cost is in credit card processing. There's no real solution to micropayments. Most credit card sales cost 20p+ per transaction. So if you buy each episode one at a time, we lose 20% on each sale. Bulk buying is problematic if we only have the capital to buy one episode at a time.

Other costs include bandwidth (the files will be big), site operation, company registration and insurance (the rights holders won't deal with you unless you're protected from malpractice).

In total we've guesstimated at least 500 pounds per episode.

Thanks for letting us know this, Mystara, but I must say I'm shocked at the costs involved! £500 per episode does seem really expensive, but is this a normal sort-of price in the TV industry for an individual episode from the master tapes of a series etc? I thought it would be something like £50 per episode - but this shows how little I know about it all etc! I do salute you though, Mystara, for trying to get this idea off-the-ground btw. If only a lottery jackpot winner could get involved & help towards the financial woes hey? We can but dream I guess! Oh well...

Yeah, I have to agree that the latest news on this from Mystara doesn't sound too promising, but then again I'm not that surprised, as it's just too much to expect the fan community to be able to do on their own, with the cost of the whole project being one of the major hurdles, without any help from a bigger company etc & as Mystara said no big company will want to get involved as it's a such as small project with no possibilities or any profit being made from it etc. So, I think in reality this idea is basically all but gone-for-a-burton. I salute the likes of Mystara for trying their best to try & get this idea off the ground, but as he said there was only interest from around 100 - 200 people, which was way below the desired amount to get things moving in the right direction. It's sad news of course, but at least it was a good idea to start-off with & a real shame that it looks like that it will never come to fruition. Although, Mystara's comments above about trying to get people outside the fan community is a good idea, so anything that is worthwhile doing is a good thing, so I am going to remain positive as long as I can, but as it stands at the moment, things aren't looking too good, which is a real shame! Oh well...

I still wonder what Tim Child thinks about this idea, as it's always been frowned upon to obtain bootleg copies of all the KM series, yet with still no 'official' DVD release, how are us fans meant to watch the show we have loved & cherish all these years? Thank heavens for Gary Garratt for sticking all the episodes onto ''YouTube'' & of course the Challenge repeats in '03/'04 were great, but I'm sure many fans like me would love to own the full 8 series of KM on proper 'official' shiny DVD discs. Maybe if Tim got involved this could have a better chance of possibly happening at some point? Maybe in-time for the 30th anniversary in 2017 perhaps?

Anyway, to sum-up, I hope one day there will be some good news regarding a proper DVD release of KM, but sadly it seems like it's a long-way off at the moment. But hey let's not totally give us hope as you never know what may happen in the future of course!...

I'd like to pledge my support to any 'official' DVD release of ''Knightmare'', but I think it's probably too much hard work & far too expensive for the fan community to do on their own. We need Tim Child or a DVD company (such as Eureka or similar) to get involved & help along the way with all the minor details etc. Now I admit that I don't really know the in's/out's of what goes into making & releasing a series on DVD for retail, but I'm sure there's lot of legal bits/pieces & also copyright stuff to sort out, which could take-up a bit of time & also prove costly. I'd love to see a proper 'official' DVD of ''Knightmare'' to get released one-day, but don't forget we are talking about 8 series/112 episodes, which will be a fair few discs & also I'd love to have some extras, such as behind-the-scenes & commentaries etc. All this would take time & money, so unless some serious backing is put behind the project then sadly I don't ever see it happening, which is a really sad thing. I wonder what Tim thinks of this idea though? Surely if he were to get involved, then perhaps he could persuade a big company or 2 to get invloved etc. I'd love GrantNaylor Productions (who make ''Red Dwarf'') to venture into doing DVD's for other series, as the ''Red Dwarf'' DVD's so far have been fantastic, really well put-together & crammed to the fore with extra material, so to get that kind-of treatment for ''Knightmare'' would be amazing! So, to sum-up I do hope one-day we finally get to see ''Knightmare'' on proper 'official' DVD or even Blu-Ray & I'd like that day to be sooner rather than later, but unless Tim & others get involved then I don't think it will happen for a while at least, or unless someone in the fan community wins the National Lottery jackpot soon! Lol I do hope it does happen though, as it would be great for all of us fans to have the show we have loved for so many years on proper 'official' shiny discs!

Alternatively, maybe it would be worth contacting Challenge, to see if they've got any plans to repeat the show again at any point in the future? The worst they could say would be no & it would be fabulous if they could repeat it again, as they've been showing ''The Crystal Maze'' now on/off for more than 10 years or so!...

Is there any chance of Martin Odoni (a.k.a HStorm) doing one final commentary? I know he's said that he doesn't plan to do anymore, but he hasn't done any for either Series 7 or 8 yet, so it would be good for him to finish off his commentaries with one more, or possibly two, as it would be good to hear his thoughts & comments on the final 2 KM series.

My 'break' may not turn out to be much of a break at all, actually, thanks to some planned collaborations.

From what I gather, there's an overhaul of the site in the works that will feature more regular news updating. It's being handled by Mysteria, who's responsible for the Aegis Quest website, so I predict awesomeness. In the meantime though, if you're on Twitter then you can get news of the most recent commentaries by following KnightmareAP. Giving us a RT every now and then will certainly help spread the love.

I have to agree with you Dark Comet, in that I have found the commentaries very interesting & enjoyable so far. For example, I was listening to Martin Odoni (a.k.a HStorm)'s S5 E1 one last night & was surprised when he was saying about how Smirkenoff's head wasn't actually part of the puppet-thing that the dungeoneer sat in and was all done seperately on blue-screen etc. I guess that's how they were able to do those close-up head shots then. Also, on one of the S3 ones, Jake ''EyeShield'' Collins made me chuckle when he was wondering who had been teaching that raven thing to talk, due to the rather strange things that he says, such as ''Hello, Sailor!'' & ''Who's a pretty boy then?'' etc. Maybe it was Dale Winton or Christopher Biggins! Lol Jake is good on on his own, but I also like the ones with his sister Rosey, as they are quite amusing at times. Martin, Jake & Rosey are all big fans of the show & it's interesting to hear their thoughts and opinions on various things, so long may these commentaries continue!...

Great news about Mysteria giving the site an updating, as it does need it in some places, as some of the video clips could now be replaced with better quality ones for example. Still, Nicholas Lam did do a great job with this site originally though, as it was one of the first websites I ever visited when I first got the 'net back in 1999!...

If Treguard had ever of had a sex change (like what Holly did in ''Red Dwarf'') between seasons then she would've been perfect to have played the female version!

I have often thought that a female Dungeon Master (Dungeon Mistress?) would be interesting. Dunno if NJR would be that good a choice though, as, for all the similar facial features she has to Hugo, she just doesn't strike me as weird or sinister enough. Although I've never seen her try to play a character that way, so I could well be wrong. Either way, an Anglo-Saxon Dungeon Master with a tough, Govan city-girl accent does sound a little incongruous to me.

I guess they could always do a 'Darth Vader' & have NJR playing the female dungeon master, but get someone else with a more powerful & scary voice to dub-over the dialogue, like what James Earl Jones did to Dave Prowse in the ''Star Wars'' films etc. Maybe NJR would be a bad choice, but who could be a good female dungeon master then? I can't think of any suitable actress at the moment...

Another excellent commentary there HStorm, shame that you don't plan to do anymore as I've been enjoying your commentaries so far. Had to laugh when you said that the actress Natalie J. Robb looks a bit like a female version of Treguard/Hugo Myatt, as I remember her from her days in both ''Doctors'' & ''The Bill'' and often thought the same! If Treguard had ever of had a sex change (like what Holly did in ''Red Dwarf'') between seasons then she would've been perfect to have played the female version! ''Knightmare'' did have some nice-looking actresses over the years though, but the best looking actress IMHO was Joanne Heywood, who I am sure you know played Stiletta in Series 8. I've seen her in some adverts recently on TV, for some butter or something similar. Natahsa Pope, Audrey Jenkinson & Jackie Sawiris were all alright too. Jacqueline Joyce was quite nice too, especially when she played Marta in that low-cut dress! Anyway, back to the topic!...

So, yeah I've been enjoying all the commentaries so far, from yourself & also Jake Collins and his sister Rosey. Maybe one reason they've not been too popular is that nobody knows about them, as I didn't until about a week ago! Perhaps if there could be a little notice put on the website's main page (with a link etc) then more people would find out about them & download them etc.

Hi HStorm, thanks for your reply. I am sad to hear that the commentaries haven't proved very popular, as I've listened to 10 now & have really enjoyed them all. I like the ones you have done so far & also the Jake ''Eyeshield'' Collins ones are good too, as too are the ones he does with Rosey - he she his sister btw? It will be a shame if you don't do anymore, but between you & Jake, there aren't that many episodes left to do now anyway though.

I've noticed in your commentaries so far that you're not a big fan of Series 4 & although I do quite like this series, I do find myself agreeing with some of your points about it so far. It is very repetitive & also the other new things they introduced in this series (such as Pickle, the Eye Shield & new theme music etc) have all divided many fans opinions over the years, so it was interesting to hear your views, especially with the possibly rejected new opening titles, which are used as the end credits in several episodes. It never occured to me that's what they were, as I just though that's a weird thing to use during the end credits, but now listening to your commentaries, I now realise what they could have been. I am glad they weren't used though!...

My own thoughts on Series 4, is that I wonder if Tim Child had more control over the show from then on, as if you look at the credits of each episode, he is now the last name in them, whereas in Series 1 - 3 it was the Director, Sally Freeman instead. She is also no longer the Director of the show, as she is replaced by Jimmy McKinney. Also, Susan Child (who I read is actually Tim's sister, although for many years just assumed it was his wife!) is a new addition to the show, as production co-ordinator or whatever it was. So perhaps Tim was given more power & freedom with the show to make whatever changes he wanted for Series 4 & so he did, hence the many changes we saw introduced in this series & from then on with each subsequent series. Still, I much prefer Series 4 to Series 5, as I am not keen on that series, as I don't like Elita at all & also not keen on Gwendoline either. Anyway, I shall look forward to your S5E1 commentary when it's available, to hear your views on the opening episode of this series, which includes the first ever apperance of Lord Fear of course!

I'm glad the forum moderator has now moved my comments about the fan commentaries to the proper area etc. Anyway, so far I have really been enjoying all the commentaries by Martin Odoni & Jake/Rosey Collins. But, I'm particularly looking forward to hearing the Series 5 - Episode 1 one, as for me personally this is when I started to lose interest in the show a little. I love the first 3 series & even series 4 whilst it has it's share of problems (such as the Eye-Shield etc), it's not too bad & I usually find myself enjoying it when I watch an episode - but don't get me started about Giles' team quest etc! But, from Series 5 onwards, the show seems to be focused quite a lot on Lord Fear, who seems to quickly take over the show, as for example he goes onto do the pre-credits opening sequences in Series 6 - 8, whereas Treguard had always done them from Series 3 - 5 (there weren't any in Series 1/2 btw). Also, it just feels like once he was introduced into the show, Lord Fear suddenly becomes the 'star' from then on & it's not Treguard anymore. Also, I don't like Series 5 for introducing the appalling character Elita, who is just so awful & sometimes I don't know if she's acting or just being rude for the sake of it! Anyway, enough of my ramblings!...

So, I do look forward to hearing the commentary for Series 5 - Episode 1 whenever it will be available. Merry Christmas to everyone on here btw!...

Apologies to everyone for going slightly off-topic for a bit there, but actually your answer about the few Challenge problems have made me realise how great it would be to have proper 'official' DVD's done straight from the original master tapes, with the episodes in full & unedited etc. Still, it was great that Challenge did show all 8 series of the show & aside from a few minor quibbles here & there, they did a pretty good job with it, even making that short 5-min featurette with both Tim Child & Hugo Myatt in it, shame it wasn't longer though!

Anyway, let's get back on-topic & I hope there's some news about the DVD campaign in the new year!...

Hi Eyeshield, yeah the commentaries are great, as it's always interesting to hear various different fans' comments on each episode or series of ''Knightmare''. You seem to like Series 4, whereas the other commentary person, Martin Odoni doesn't seem too keen on it. I myself did enjoy Series 4, despite the various changes introduced (such as The Eye Shield & Pickle etc). I think Series 3 is probably my favourite series overall though, as it was the first series I started to watch on a regular basis each week. However, I'm not too keen on Series 5 & 6 though, simply due to the fact that Elita is in them and she is my least favourite character ever, she is just awful, downright rude & bad-behaved! But, it's so funny in that episode (I forget which one) when the dungeoneer answers her back! Anyway, keep up the commentaries asthey are really good!...

One thing is when you do them, are you watching/using the episodes from the original CITV broadcasts or the Challenge repeats?

Then the Broadsword logo, which states the programme was made in, erm, 1989. Whoops.

I'm sure back in 1990 when it was originally shown on Children's ITV that the correct Broadsword 1990 production slide was used at the end of Episode 1, so I've no idea why a 1989 one should appear in the Challenge 2003 repeat of it, unless there is a slight problem with the master tapes or something? If you listen to the sword sound, it's out-of-sync with when the sword goes into the Broadsword logo, so I guess Challenge or someone just stuck it on at the end for some reason. I've always thought the 1990 Broadsword slide sounds a bit louder than the 1989 ones anyway. Also, a few other episodes of Series 4 during the Challenge repeat run had the Anglia production slide missing too, so perhaps there is something wrong with the master tapes. Still, it's only a minor quibble anyway though!...

I have to say I'm really enjoying these commenatries! I'm currently listening to Jake Collins' one for Series 4, Episode 13. I'm from Cornwall, so from the same ITV region (TSW) as Dicken's team were, as they were from Torquay in Devon. Also a winning team too!...

Instead of going for a DVD release, why not bypass that & go straight to Blu-Ray? There is far more room on a single Blu-Ray disc, so it wouldn't be as many discs for the full 8 series plus extras. Also, I would love a commentary or 2 from Tim Child & Hugo Myatt or any of the actors involved, or from any of the teams too. Or from the fans like what they do on the ''Red Dwarf'' fansite ''Ganymede & Titan''. Also, a nice few featurettes would be great too, with interviews from all the main people involved. Also archive footage, CITV appearances & trailers etc, behind-the-scenes footage & any other interesting stuff would be great to see too. So, I think Blu-Ray would be a good way to go for a retail release, and with the players coming down in price now rapidly (£100 in Asda now!), I think Blu-Ray will take off in the next year or 2. Also, it's great picture & sound quality too. Normal DVD is still good, but I just think it would be better to go down this route, if only for the size/storage capabilities that Blu-Ray has over 'normal' DVD's.

Also, this might be more appealing to people now as Blu-Ray is starting to become more popular & also an incentive to buy it from fans who may already own bootleg copies on DVD or VHS.

Things have gone a bit quite around here lately, but there is a couple of things that I have been thinking of lately. One thing is I wish the Video clips of this site could be updated, as a lot of the clips are now badly out-of-date Real Media files from the Sci-Fi Channel repeats & quite poor quality. All these could now be changed to better quality clips or links to some ''YouTube'' videos. Also, maybe the ''Children's ITV'' section could be a bit updated too, now that's a bit more information about it's history available (thanks to the likes of ''Wikipedia'' etc). I have read on here that the webmaster wants to step down from running the site, which is a shame, but it would be good for someone else to take over & make a few improvements and minor tweaks here and there.

Also, what is happening re Tim Child's ''Something Stirs'' comment that he made on here last year? He said there would be something happening in either 2008 or 2009, but we're nearly at the end of 2009 now & we've heard nothing from him, so what was all that about? Down here in the south-west on this day, which was the 22nd December '89, our then local ITV region, TSW absolutely butchered up the CITV links of the day, as they often did to fit in their birthdays' slot, Gus Honeybun instead! (Gus was shown twice a day each weekday (before & after CITV) & once a day at weekends btw). Anyway, on this day, they only showed 3 of the 7 broadcast links:

Link 1: The opening CITV intro & link wasn't shown, as they went straight from Gus into the 1st programme, which was "Bugs Bunny And Friends".

Link 2: After the 1st cartoon, this link was shown by TSW.

Link 3: After the 2nd cartoon, this link was also shown by TSW & went into the 1st commercial break, with the "Lots To Come On CITV" ident.

Link 4: The "You're Watching CITV" ident & link. This wasn't shown on TSW, as they went straight from the commercial break into the next programme, which was "Rolf's Cartoon Club - Christmas Special".

Link 5: After Rolf, Jerry & Scally chat to the "Motormouth" crew, followed by the "More To Come On CITV" ident & into the commercial break. This was shown on TSW.
