    Series 6

When January's team dies, we see a shot of the advisers and the skull death scene appears to be visible on their monitor. But look closely and you'll see it isn't.

What they've actually got is a still frame (or a very slow running video) of the advisers looking at a black screen, then digitally added the skull so it appears like it's on the screen (with a mask so that it doesn't show through their heads). Notice how when part of the skull flies off, it goes 'off screen' before it reaches the edge of the monitor!

The life force was never shown on the adviser's monitor during filming in any series; it was added on later in post production. Changes to life force status were usually indicated by the Dungeon Master (Treguard).

Ah good, Challenge set the VT to stereo for the next episode

In this series and the next series, you can always tell when deaths are going to happen - especially on causeways. Did you hear the drumming to build tension just before the dungeoneer fell off? Other times they play that suspenseful music and you just KNOW a death is imminent.

Also look very carefully when it cuts back to the causeway just before he dies. That was clearly a specially re-filmed death so the dungeoneer could step off a blue platform, do a 'falling' pose then the rest could be done with digital effects. Look and you'll see a distinct blue halo around the dungeoneer in that scene, clearly the lighting had been changed - filmed after their quest I guess.

Unlike in series 1-3 where they've just sidestepped into thin air, then fallen standing still

The teams don't hear any music while playing, and sometimes don't even know if they die! If they do die, the screen blacks out and someone tells Treguard through an earpiece so he can do his Ooh, Nasty speech - and tell them why they died. Then they re-film a death scene before the team go back home.

Actually, Matt did respond with a 'yeah' when the advisers talked to him while frozen. He didn't say anything about not being able to put it down though! Perhaps he did put it down and they just froze the video until they cast the spell

I've only just seen the two episodes here (had to tape the 1:30am repeat) so I won't go into a detailed explanation like I usually do

I liked the first appeareance of Ah Wok, and how the teams have to cope with his stereotypical Chinese accent. He gave the team a password "Skereton" which the advisers correctly interpreted as SKELETON.

The Level 2 blocker is in Level 1 now, oddly enough. Seems to have the animation speeded up though. It forms up a lot faster, and look at its lips when it says 'PASSWORD' - it's out of sync!

I wonder if Challenge cut out the Enter Stranger bit for some reason? I don't remember it like this before, when I saw it on CITV! The dungeoneer still had to summon his advisers in the usual manner though...

I thought the episode sounded strange, and wondered if this series was also made in mono. However, it sounded more like it was stereo at one point and converted to mono. The ad break and the Challenge animation thing beforehand was stereo though - it's as if someone at Challenge had the playback VT set to mono! The music really doesn't have the proper atmosphere unless listened to in stereo

    General Discussion

What about all that stuff he said in Latin? I'm curious to know what he was talking about when he gave Latin statements to the dungeoneer (who didn't understand) or when he muttered to himself.

I remember one time he muttered to himself "Ignoramus maximus" when the dungeoneer said he couldn't speak Latin. I can guess what that particular phrase means, but we'd really need a Latin speaker to translate the other stuff he says.

    General Discussion

Discuss here unfairness regarding teams in Knightmare. For example, if a team should have died but were let off - or vice versa.

I can think of two from the current series (5) airing on Challenge at the moment. I remember one team was carrying poison instead of the green arrow (token of the greenwarden). IMO, they should have died there for having the wrong item. I can just picture Gwendolin saying now "But you're carrying poison! I can't trust you - and how do I know you're not going to poison some other innocent creature! I'm gonna put an arrow in you just to make sure..." Ooh, nasty!

Again, a later team got asked 3 questions by Gwendolin, who clearly said that they needed to get 2/3 to get the password. They only got 1/3, but were carrying the token so got the password anyway. I think it should have been like the earlier series. They didn't get enough questions right, so shouldn't have got the password... and been eaten by the Level 1 Blocker.

I think it was the next series where a team should have died in a very dark dwarf tunnel. Treguard hints "If only you had a lantern" but they still somehow got through!

The team that died on the earth-fire-water causeway I think was unfair. The previous team took all the time in the world to get across the right path. This team were taking the right path, but got killed off for taking a split second too long!

I remember well them trying to spellcast BAG against one of those floating skulls. The production crew clearly weren't ready for it, as nothing happened and no letters appeared on the screen. They were let off though and saved the spell for later.

When they WERE ready for the BAG spell to be cast (with Elita's voice), it took them FOREVER to realise that the voice was there and needed capturing! I thought their life force was going to run out = death when I first watched it

  • Series 5 - Episode 11
    T Tom41
    Series 5

I think that they should have died on level 1. Gwendolin clearly stated that they needed to get two out of three correct to get the password. They got one out of three, so therefore shouldn't have got the password - and been eaten by the Level 1 blocker. But instead Gwendolin said they were trying, and gave them the password anyway!

I wonder about the book scene - when Sly turned into the hobgoblin, did he run and put a mask on? Or was it digitally added?

With the causeway, it was almost like there was an invisible Frightknight timer (next series?) to hurry them up. They just died a split second before stepping onto the next tile, so the production team probably wanted to kill them off for previous mistakes.

  • Series 5 Episode 8
    T Tom41
    Series 5

Resumed from time-out with Sylvester Hands harassing the dungeoneer. Gwendolin rushed in, and Sylvester Hands put a Helmet of Justice on his head to try and fool Gwendolin! Gwendolin set a few questions to prove who was the real dungeoneer - but with Sly giving thick answers as usual, it wasn't too difficult for Ben!

Gwendolin accompanied Ben through the next eye-shield sequence. Unusually, Gwendolin spoke to the dungeoneer during this sequence - and gave them the password for the level "Morning Star".

Arrived in a clearing where Sir Hugh de Witless rode in again. After a lot of discussion and argument between Gwendolin and Hugh, he picked up Gwendolin and 'rescued' her by taking her away! This left Ben to get out of the clearing through a portal in the background.

Through another eye-shield sequence (in which you saw a farm with a crowing rooster!) into an inn. There were some items on a table there - a spy-glass and some food. Spied on Lord Fear, and learned that Skarkill was after Gwendolin - and also that their main priority was the adventurer (dungeoneer)!

Brother Mace came in straight after he put the spy-glass down, and Ben offered him the book. After a LOT of discussion to 'prove his identity', they decided to give mace the book and gained some information. The way to Level 3 is via the Descender, and also that the gate is guarded by goblins. Just as Ben was about to leave, Mace remembered something else - and gifted them a SESAME spell.

Arrived in a field with a castle in the distance. Treguard mentioned that this was the 'last dungeon in level 2' but they had to cross a lot of open ground to get there. A goblin horn sounded, so they decided to make the dungeoneer run for it! Through another eye-shield sequence into a rock-paper-scissors causeway. Navigated it very well, but almost fell off it near the end!

Next room they got some food, and another Blocker came forward. They gave it the password they got from Gwendolin, and it went away allowing them access to the next area. Arrived in a castle room with a big metal door in front of them. Skarkill appeared and tried to put the irons on Ben. Notice that they begin to tell Ben to say that the horn proves he's one of Skarkill's men, but instead they decide to blow the horn. Gwendolin came to the rescue, shooting some arrows at Skarkill, causing him to run away. The door also opened at the sound of the horn. As they went into the Descender, Gwendolin told them that it was winter in Level 3.

In the Descender, they shouted 'down' to start it, then the team looked through the windows. When they saw a winter landscape they told Ben to shout 'stop' and it stopped in front of one door. The door had a FrightKnight symbol over it - but Treguard says that all doors to Level 3 have FrightKnights over them. The door wouldn't open, so they had to use the SESAME spell they got from Mace to unlock it.

Arrived in a winter landscape, the land of Winteria. Found some clues on a rock in the middle of a snow-covered field. They read the scroll, and it said "Give a dog a bone". In Series 3, that would imply Mrs Grimwold and Festus, but I don't see what it has to do in this series. Then looked through the spy-glass and saw Lord Fear talking to Aisandre, and making a pact to dispose of the dungeoneer. The team are really on the ball when it comes to putting the spy-glass down. They dropped it as soon as LF began talking about his detection devices! Then timed out as soon as they stopped spying.

Knice winter scene (with birds flying away) under the credits.

Thought I'd bump this thread for tonight's episode.

Resumed from time-out with Motley in the stocks. Learned from Motley that the only one who can free him is Elita - and that Elita likes green stones. Also used the spy-glass to spy on Lord Fear, and learned that someone was after the dungeoneer!

Through an eye-shield sequence and encountered Julius Scaramonger. Got some food from him, then started bartering. They said they wanted a green stone, but Julius tried to sell them a Firestone (red stone) instead! They were persistant however, and eventually exchanged the silver for a green stone.

In a castle courtyard, they found Elita standing by a rope that was going up to the ceiling. Was even ruder than usual! Elita just wanted to take the green stone and not give any help, but they eventually persuaded her to release Motley in return for the green stone. She also gave them the causeway combination - red, blue, green, grey - before cartwheeling off the screen!

Next room was a causeway. Each hexagon had a picture of a FrightKnight on it, but each was a different colour. They had to use the colour combination they just got from Elita. A little slow, but navigated the causeway well. This team realized that they only needed to follow the combination on the Frightknight hexagons, not the three at the end - they just made the dungeoneer run for the exit.

Into another castle courtyard, where Motley ran into the room. Motley gave them the password in return for rescuing him - BLUDGEON. Goblin horns sounded in the eye-shield sequence as they went up the stairs. Found food in the next area and encountered a blocker. Gave it the password and it went away, giving them access to the next room.

Found Hordriss at the entrance to the Descender. Hordriss asked if they had any useful Level 1 objects which they should abandon here. They didn't, so Hordriss allowed them access to the Descender. They should shout 'Down' to start it, and 'Stop' to stop it after 4 levels have passed. They did so, and arrived in front of two doors - one of which had a FrightKnight symbol above it. They decided to take the one with the FrightKnight!

Through an eye-shield sequence into the Level 2 clue room. The scroll said 'Rock breaks Scissors' which they assumed was some kind of clue. They took the book and the gold - and had to hurry out of the room since a skull appeared!

In a large room next, Sylvester Hands rushed in and started harassing the dungeoneer. Suddenly a voice shouted from off-screen, and it timed out right there! Yet another Smirkenoff flight sequence under the credits.

Bumping this thread for tonight's episode!

Resumed on the Earth/Air/Fire causeway. Navigated brilliantly and got through. I think they should have died at one point, as the dungeoneer's feet were on one tile as it fell down. Perhaps they were let off.

In the next room they found a chest, with a skull going up and down over it. Although they waited for the skull to move up before going to the chest, they failed to tell the dungeoneer to duck down as it moved down again - damaging their life force! The skull disappeared as they opened the chest with the key though. Inside was a scroll, with one word, PIXEL, on it. They thought this must be a spell.

Came into an internal castle room, where they got food. But then Skarkill and the goblins appeared, so they had to spellcast PIXEL. This caused Pixel the Pixie to appear, and used her needle on Skarkill to make him run away! Then they thanked Pixel for her help, and Pixel requested they magic her away again. So they had to disspell LEXIP to make her disappear.

Arrived in front of a tower with a metal gate in the front. Cautiously approached it. When the camera changed to a closer view, the Gatekeeper appeared serving 'neither the powers that be nor the opposition'. Told him their name and quest, and were allowed into the Descender. (metal door opened)

The Gatekeeper gave them information that Level 2 was 5 levels down, 6 up and 2 down. At first they thought they had to make the lift go down 5, up 6 and 2 down - but the dungeoneer cleverly noticed that adding those numbers up would just be 1 level down! Told the Descender to go down 1 level, and it did.

This team became the first to get to Level 3 this season. There was only one door that the Descender stopped at, and it had a Frightknight symbol above it!

Arrived outside a castle, where I sort of expected a blocker to jump out - but there was no wall so it couldn't! They found some food and clue objects. One scroll said 'The key to my dungeon is the jewel in my crown'. The other one said just 'GHOST' so they thought it was a spell. The spells don't count as items, so they decided to take the key and the jewel. A skull appeared and chased them out!

Encountered Elita in the next area doing a ritual. Elita told them to get out fairly quickly, giving them directions - but also heard that 'ruby red' was a part of her incantation. Took a LONG time deciding whether to give Elita the ruby or not. Eventually they decided to give it to her - but Elita just ran off with it and didn't help!

I think it was because they took so long deciding that put them in losing status, had they just given it straight away Elita would probably have helped.

Next was the Corridor of Blades, where they got chopped in half - ooh, nasty! Wait, was that the original Life Force Skull? Knice! Treguard said that Elita could have saved them, but they took too long to decide. Too bad we never got to see them use the GHOST spell.

Next team got a free ride from Smirkenoff into Level 1, and arrived in front of a castle. There were a few clue objects on a table there - an arrow, a fish, a spy-glass, a scroll, some rope and a bag of Silver. They took the fish as food, then read the scroll. It said 'Look - but not here'. Taking the scroll's advise, they took the spy-glass (but didn't use it) and silver, and went into the castle.

Through an eye-shield sequence into a castle courtyard. Here, they found Motley trapped in the stocks. Motley referred to the dungeoneer as 'elmet-ed' and asked him to come over. They couldn't release Motley from the stocks, because they needed a key. Timed out as they were talking to Motley.

View of a castle moat and bridge under the credits, negative so it looked strange. Look out for a negatived bird flying across the picture!

    Series 5

Started off with the team navigating the causeway very well, keeping to the path of defense. They didn't panic much when the blocks started dropping like the previous team!

Then onto the back of Smirkenoff. But Elita rushed in, (first appearance) and was very rude! Elita accepted the bag of silver from the dungeoneer and allowed her to get onto Smirkenoff and fly to level 2. Is it just me, or did Smirkenoff fly a full 360 degrees and arrive back at the same castle again?

Through an eye-shield sequence and entered a clue 'room' inside the castle. Got food there, read a scroll (One step forward two steps right), then took a LONG time deciding which of the items to take! Eventually they decided to take a gold bar and a statue thing. They said the statue was of a knight with a dragon round his legs - George, maybe?

In the next room encountered Brother Mace at a chess board. It turned out that the knight 'statue' was in fact the piece missing from Mace's chess set! After a discussion about chess (which didn't seem to have much relevance), they learned that Sylvester Hands was a 'pawn' of the opposition and had stolen a key to Merlin's Magic Box.

Into a forest clearing, and Sir Hugh de Witless made his debut riding a white horse. Hugh tried to 'rescue' the dungeoneer but she didn't need rescuing! He didn't know the password to level 2, but he decided that the team could call on him in their moment of need.

Also accompanied Sarah into the next area (entrance to a farm). Here, they got food and looked through a spy-glass. Learned that Sylvester Hands had stolen something that Lord Fear really wants - then had to put the spy-glass down fairly quickly as the security alert sounded! Hugh stayed to fend off some goblins that were approaching allowing Sarah to make an escape into the farmhouse.

In the farmhouse, there was a barmaid who guided Sarah to her seat. Also Sylvester Hands was there. He tried to sell them a dungeon map of Level 2, but they wisely refused! Instead, they persuaded Hands to sell them the key he had for a bar of gold. Took some food and went through another eye-shield sequence.

Entered yet another causeway. This time there were element symbols, Earth, Fire and Water on the hexagons with a 'solution' above the door. Earth -> Water -> Fire -> back to Earth. But timed out here before they could make a move. This time there was a long view of Sarah with the boatman rowing under the credits.

  • Series 5 Episode 4
    T Tom41
    Series 5

Bumped this thread for tonight's episode.

I liked Pickle at the beginning trying to take the role of Treguard introducing the viewers! Treguard then came in and wasn't too pleased...

Resumed from time-out with Skarkill. Didn't have the gold to bribe him with, so instead tried to give him the goblin horn and convince him it was a magic horn! (blow it and riches beyond your wildest dreams will appear). Skarkill told them to blow the horn so he can hear what it sounds like. One of the advisers starts to mention that "Dungeoneers..." - perhaps he was going to suggest that the horn doesn't work for dungeoneers? But they he blew the horn - and summoned two goblins. Skarkill 'kills' the team by putting the irons on them... Ooh, nasty! Treguard mentioned something about 'paying the ransom' to get the dungeoneer back so he could be sent home

Next team started off at a river. They didn't have any money for the boatman, but he didn't need a fare being Level 1. Also, the boatman didn't speak at all in this series, only grunt slightly.

Then a clue 'room' which was more of a clearing in the forest. Took a banana for food, then had to take two objects. There were two weapons on the table, a bottle of poison, and a bag of silver. I liked how the dungeoneer said the length of the arrow was about 75cm! They took the silver and the poison, and exited just as a horn sounded (not a goblin horn though) signalling that someone was hunting in the forest!

Into another clearing, where they encountered Julius Scaramonger, who seemed to be trying to put an animal into a sack! He tried to buy the eye-shield off them, then gave them a password to Level 1. Sounded like Fright Knight to me, but he said it so fast the team didn't know whether he said 'fright knight' or 'bright light'!

On the outskirts of Wolfenden, encountered Gwendolin who accused them of poaching an animal! They described what Julius Scaramonger (the real poacher) looked like, but they didn't know his name! Also, since they were carrying poison, not her token (the arrow), she didn't want to believe them! I think they should have died here since they had the wrong item, like the first 3 series which were stricter.

Instead, Gwendolin decided to accompany them into Wolfenden to make sure they don't do anything with the poison - and so they could point out Scaramonger to her. In Wolfenden, they spotted Scaramonger and pointed him out to Gwendolin. Gwendolin went off to chase him, but not before they gained another password "Greenwood" from her!

Through an eye-shield sequence into a castle courtyard. There was food there, and a spy-glass. Using the spy-glass they learned that the Opposition thought that the dungeoneer would try to take the path of aggression - but only the path of defence was safe! Then imposed a complete communications blackout rendering the spy-glass useless.

In the next area there was a blocker ready (one of the advisers says 'I have a feeling the wall's gonna move'). After picking up and reading a scroll for the first time ever on Knightmare, the blocker moved forward. They decided to use the password that Gwendolin gave them, not Julius - and the blocker let them through.

Through the door into a causeway area, with symbols representing aggression and defence. One of the advisers mentioned this and said it was something to do with what they overheard on the spy-glass. But it timed out here before they could make a move. Yet another Smirkenoff flight sequence under the credits!

  • Series 5 - Episode 3

    Series 5

Resumed from time-out with Sylvester Hands 'harrassing' the dungeoneer. They had flowers now, so they let Pixel out of the bottle - and she used her needle several times on Hands! He agreed to give them the password for Level 1 if they told Pixel to stop it - and they did Got the password SARACEN. Pixel didn't want to go back in the bottle though, so flew away.

Through an eye-shield sequence into a room with a Blocker. Got some food off the barrel, then the Blocker came forward - so had to give it the password they just got from Hands. The blocker went away and they exited through the door on the left.

Next was the entrance to the Descender, with Brother Mace in front of it (who gave a sort of elevator 'this floor' speech ). Mace kept making bad jokes and giggling, and said that wellways are too old-fashioned so now they use modern technology - the Descender opened.

To start the Descender, they had to say "Down Boy!", count 6 floors down, then say "Halt!" to stop it on the 7th. This was the first team to have to stop the descender themselves at a certain point - the previous team had the descender auto-stop at the next level.

The Descender stopped at two doors. One had a FrightKnight above it (notice the advisers ask Pickle what that thing above the door was), so they took the door without the FrightKnight.

Entered the big red hall room, and found Motley trapped in a 'joker' playing card! To free him, they had to name the card game where the joker takes all. Took ages to decide on an answer, and eventually shouted "Snap!" to free him. Motley gave Richard a nickname, 'Dicky' because he apparently wasn't too smart, taking so long to figure out the answer!

Through an eye-shield sequence into a forest clearing. Motley broke a twig that was lying on the ground, causing Gwendolin to burst in with her bow drawn! Gwendolin kicked Motley on the ground (I'm surprised that was allowed!) causing Motley to run off. Gwendolin then said that they need to go to Ariadne's Lair to find some clue objects to bribe your way through to the gate tower. Also said that they need a password for Level 2, but she didn't have it. They needed to find Oakley, wake him and please him to get the password.

Through the portal into Ariadne's Lair - this time in the forest, but there was still a web at the top of the screen. Ariadne suddenly came in, so they hurredly had to take two items and leave! They took the Spy-glass and the horn, leaving the gold. But wait - didn't Gwendolin mention something about bribing?

Next was a clearing with a large oak tree. They now had time to look through the spy-glass and saw Lord Fear talking to Skarkill. Overheard a colour combination for the causeway - Red, Blue, Green and Grey.

Then, they shouted 'Awake, O Great One!' to wake up Oakley. Same face as before, just on a different tree. Oakley wasn't too pleased about oversleeping and missing spring!

Oakley set them one riddle, they got it right so gained the password for Level 2 "Leaf Mould".

Through another eye-shield sequence into a blocker room, where they got food and gave the password they just got to the Blocker.

Next was the causeway. Each hexagon had a FrightKnight symbol on it, but all were different colours. Navigated very well, if a bit slowly (good thing there wasn't a FrightKnight timer). I think they only have to follow the combination on the main area of hexagons with the FrightKnights, but they still tried to follow the combination on the blank ones at the end!

Into a castle, where Skarkill finally caught up with the dungeoneer, and wanted to clap the irons on him! Timed out in these scene though. I won't spoil the next episode, but I think they should have taken the gold to bribe him...

Yet another Smirkenoff flight sequence under the credits.

(merge with current thread please - I didn't feel like digging for the old thread)

Oddly the status bar had a '1/2' symbol on it, denoting 15 and a half minutes into their quest! Usually they'd just round up to the nearest minute.

Hordriss wanted the team to recover a shin-bone from a Sphinx. In return, they got a box containing a pixie, and information not to open it until they encounter opposition forces - and the pixie won't work on Frightknights.

In the next room, Skarkill and a couple of goblins appeared. They opened the box and Pixel the Pixie came out, and stabbed Skarkill with her needle a few times! Skarkill ran off with his goblins! After that they had to thank Pixel for her help, and she agreed to stay with them to fight off more enemies later - but no Frightknights!

Through an eye-shield sequence, and then the very first appearance of a causeway! They opened the box and Pixel gave some information "Don't be offensive."

The team were clearly surprised when the blocks started dropping, and I'm sure the viewers were too! Although they chose the right path, they made the dungeoneer sidestep one too many to the right and fall off the causeway! Ooh, nasty!

Next is Richard's team from Kent. Since I missed the beginning of the 1st episode, I noticed two more changes here. The teams are asked which quest item they wanted to retrieve - this team chose the Cup. In this series, Treguard asks the dungeoneer if he had second thoughts before putting the helmet on him!

Came onto Smirkenoff and through a flight sequence, landing in front of a castle. Is that Bodiam Castle in Sussex?

At the castle gate, the team found some food and other clue objects. Found a spy-glass and used it to spy on Lord Fear. Learned that Skarkill is looking for the dungeoneer, and wants paying for his services! Just put the spy-glass down in time.

They opened the strange bottle and Pixel's voice came out! She said that she'd only come out if there were some fresh flowers around. They decided to take the bottle and the silver - wisely leaving the dagger.

Next was another causeway, this time with Rock, Paper and Scissors blocks. They found the right path by walking onto whichever symbol the previous symbol would beat. (e.g.. they were stood on a Rock at the start, so went onto Scissors)

Navigated the causeway very well, and through an eye-shield sequence into a forest clearing with a house nearby. Look out for an 'inverted' lens flare in the eye-shield sequence!

The lady next to the house was selling fresh flowers, and they bought some flowers with the silver. Asked her if she knew anything about the dungeon, she didn't but indicated where the exit was. In the next eye-shield sequence there were a LOT of wolf noises!

Into the outskirts of a village, and Sylvester Hands appeared, and noticed they had no weapons. But it timed out right here!

I'm surprised Challenge didn't delete Pickle saying 'bog off' to the viewers. And the Challenge announcer says that everyone in the series is out of work now...

View of the Descender under the credits.

Few changes in the beginning of the series and teams. As the episode opens, we see that the cartoon intro sequence has been playing on the advisers wall monitor. Also, the dungeoneers no longer appear 'at the door' - Treguard just says Enter Stranger to summon them in.

Pickle now takes the team's names and details on a parchment scroll

First appearance of Smirkenoff at the beginning, and we see a dragon-ride into Level 1! Smirkenoff didn't speak in this series.

Through a castle door and into the woods (?!) then into a clearing. Brother Mace and Sylvester Hands were playing some card game. Mace gave them some information - near the forest is the village of Wolfenden. They were told to find Julius Scaramonger, and give him a bag of gold which Mace owes him.

Through the portal and straight into Wolfenden. Julius Scaramonger was there, and tried to buy the eye-shield, helmet and knapsack off Katherine! She refused of course, and then made Scaramonger promise to give them some information or items before handing over the gold from Mace. They got a spy-glass from him, then went into the building.

Inside the building, got some food and Treguard explained how to use the spy-glass, by holding it up in front of the eye-shield. Lord Fear appears for the first time ever. Didn't gain much information, apart from that the goblin master is hunting the dungeoneer. Just managed to throw the spy-glass down before LF was able to destroy her!

The next eye-shield sequence was the only one not to have been 'solarized' by digital effect!

Arrived in a forest clearing, and Gwendolin the Greenwarden appeared! Answered a riddle, and gained a password "Saracen" from her - and even asked her how to spell it!

There was a blocker in the next area, which came forward and asked for the PASS-WORD! Gave it the password they just got "Saracen" which caused the blocker to go away. Through the door and into the Decender - a mechanical, spellbound lift! They said 'could you move please' and it started moving down, towards Level 2!

Stopped by two doors (the right one had a frightknight over it). They decided to take the door without the FrightKnight over it.

Through an eye-shield sequence, up some steps made of brick or wood (but making a metal noise, somehow). Only a slight digital effect applied to this sequence.

Hordriss was in the next room at a desk. Timed out just as the dungeoneer sat down. Smirkenoff flight sequence under the credits - looks like he's flying back to Wolfenden! Which version of the Broadsword logo was that? I don't remember it from CITV or Sci-Fi!

    Series 4

The team encountered Brother Mace, who asked Giles to take off the eye-shield! He didn't like being spied on by magic shields

Mace tried to give them a Three of Hearts card, saying it was a joker - but the team weren't fooled! Mace then gave them a real Joker card.

Next was another door-monster, Doorkis. Tried the Latin word that Mace gave them (Iocus), but then remembered the calling from the first door. One adviser suggested that they write down the calling now! Scored 2/3 on the true and false riddles, and the door opened.

Through a forest path in Dunkley Wood, and arrived at the entrance to Ariadne's Lair. Just managed to get into the portal before Ariadne came in!

In Ariadne's Lair, got some food and picked up a gold bar. Then Ariadne came in and they had to play the Joker card. This caused Motley to appear, and Motley told Ariadne a few insults to make her go away!

The Dunswater was next, the boatman asked for silver or gold for the fare. Apart from his initial statement about the Dunswater and the fare, the boatman never talks - only grunts. They gave him the gold and got across. Look closely and you'll see the background video sequence 'loop' just before cutting back to the advisers. Obviously they couldn't take an infinite amount of tape of the castle and moat!

In an eye-shield sequence, Giles asked where the door was - in front of him! Down the castle steps, and into a room with a table. On the table was a loaf of bread (they took as food), and an iron key. Giles picked the key up and put it in the knapsack at first, but took it out straight away!

Then called Merlin 3 times, and he appeared (though no longer in the stocks) and disspelled the skull that was floating around. Merlin instructed them to leave the key on the table, so he could 'conjure' the key back later.

In the next room there was the entrance to the Corridor of Blades, but there were two skulls moving back and forth over the entrance. They tried to check the chest and table first, but Pickle said there was nothing worth taking there. Just dodged the skulls (I think they hit him but were let off) and got into the corridor.

In the Corridor of Blades, Giles kept having to run between the left and right wall. They DEFINITELY died twice here, two of the blades touched here! Probably let off since it wasn't worth starting a new quest with only 5 minutes remaining this season! At the end, Giles ran through the door at the side even though the corridor had stopped!

Encountered Mogdred on the bridge, who started to crumble the bridge. They walked quickly forward and into the next room.

Demonstrated how NOT to do the Block and Tackle, paniced a lot and ran around! Still got through though, and into the transporter pad room.

Their quest had to end there though, as the season was coming to an end. Treguard spellcast UNITE to get Giles back to the antechamber. Suddenly Merlin entered, and used his wand to summon Christmas decorations in the antechamber! "You do want to be home in time for Christmas, don't you?"

This is because the original broadcast date (on CITV) was around the 21st December. I'm surprised Challenge didn't edit the Christmas references out (like they did with the CITV scroll in another series) - because it's nowhere near Christmas!

Gundrada was twirling her sword under the credits. She did seem to drop it at the end though, just before it cut off to the Broadsword logo - perhaps that's why they cut it off a bit early

(merge with current thread if it exists)

Resumed from time-out at Dooris. The team gave the calling but messed up slightly "Open the door and let us through" - but the door still responded.

Scored 2/3 on the True or False riddles and the door opened, gaining them passage.

In the eye-shield room, Merlin was stuck in the stocks, with a witch who hurredly took his drink away

Unusually, they couldn't free him right now, since they had to go and find a key first! Merlin explained that he (and the stocks) could be called from anywhere, and that the key was made of iron. Then they were allowed to take the Eye-Shield.

The witch then came back into the room and summoned her magic broom to 'sweep' the dungeoneer out!

Then came outside the Crazed Heffer (was there an edit just before he entered this area?). The early Pooka appeared again so they had to make a swift 'entrance' into the inn!

Motley was telling jokes inside the Inn - and got pelted with cabbages for his 'knife to see you' bad joke! Motley gave the team a DASH spell for free, then guided Giles out of the Inn.

"You're going down some stairs as you can see..." - no he can't, he's got the helmet on and can't see the eye-shield anyway

Used the DASH spell in the next eye-shield forest sequence to escape from a goblin hunting party. We saw the goblins looking around in the clearing after Giles went through the portal!

In Oakley's glen, Oakley appeared and set them the usual 3 riddles. Strange 3rd riddle 'how do you turn an oak into an ash... by burning it'. Wouldn't that imply that he WASN'T a tree-friend?

Scored 3/3 on the riddles, and gained a clue from Oakley. "The bloodstone leads to bloodshed" so it was pretty obvious to take the other two items on the stump!

Is it just me, or was Giles sniffing the 'sniff' bottle a couple of times?

The eye-shield sequences were obviously pre-recorded, but the advisers didn't know that! They kept trying to make Giles sidestep and turn!

In the entrance of Dungarth, encountered Mellisandre and asked her for directions to Level 2. Mellisandre gave them a complex sequence of directions to get to the wellway room. An assassin appeared just as they were getting out of the entryway - and the advisers are still trying to give Giles directions in the eye-shield sequence

The next room, the witch was back, and this time introduced herself as Mistress Goody. After a brief bit of chit-chat, they entered the moving corridor. After a bit of discussion, they decided to throw the spanner down to stop the machinery and exited through a side door.

Next was the wellway room, but Fatilla the Hun was on guard. They got past him by giving him the SNIFF bottle - he sniffed it, and started sneezing! They were able to get down the wellway while he was distracted.

Landed on a table in Level 2. Picked up an apple for food, and found Gundrada stuck in the stocks. Gundrada thought Giles was an assassin at first, but they let her out of the stocks and gained her trust. An armored knight appeared (first reference to a Fright Knight), Gundrada kept the knight busy while Giles escaped from the room.

Timed out in the eye-shield sequence as he exited. Boat-ride footage under the credits.

I can't seem to find this 'full pilot' clip on Televirtual's website. I can only find the various clips that are available on the Knightmare VR news page, unless you mean the 'Puzzle Room Full' clip, that is!

Can you give me a link to where I could download this pilot? I'll respect Tim Child's wishes and download after 9pm (23) and tomorrow, an odd-numbered day (name starts with T)

    Series 4

I would have posted this earlier, typing up while the ep was being broadcast, but my laptop's power supply decided to fail on me - and the battery was dead. So I had to take the tape to one of my other computers to get it typed up. Plus I had to do the 'forgot password' thing on the forum before I could post it.

    --

Resumed from time-out with them getting the eye-shield and into the forest.

Came outside the Crazed Heffer inn, with one of those early Pookas floating around outside - so had to get in fairly quickly! Nearly walked into the Pooka before entering the door

Motley was inside the inn, and gave them some food. Then Jeremy told Motley a good joke (the ancient chicken-cross-the-road one), so Motley gave them a JOKE spell in return! Then Motley led Jeremy out of the inn and down the steps, into the forest again.

Next was Oakley's Glen. Oakley set them 3 riddles as usual, they scored 2/3. Gained the information that 'the glove holds nothing', so it was fairly obvious which items to take! (gold and egg-timer). The Pooka appeared again to chase them out of the clearing! I quite like the scary early Pooka music!

In front of the Fortress of Dungarth, an Assassin appeared. At first they tried to run away, but Pickle said that they could just shout at the assassin! I think they got caught by the assassin before they managed to shout at it, but were let off...

Next they found a giant lizard! Treguard suggested they didn't stop too long... so they sidestepped to the right to get away fairly quickly!

In the same area used at the beginning for the 'weeping door', except this time there was an entrance to the moving corridor. A skull appeared so they had to quickly get into the corridor!

Picked up some food in the corridor, then turned over the egg-timer and put it down. This stopped the conveyor from moving, allowing them to escape through a door to the right.

Fatilla the Hun guarded the wellway, and he wanted to 'blip and blop' the dungeoneer with his club! Tried to bribe him with gold, but he still refused to let him through the well - but agreed to make the bashing quick and painless

They had to use the JOKE spell on Fatilla to make him hysterical, then get down the wellway while he was distracted!

Landed on a table. There was a goblin statue with 'evil eyes' which was draining the life force quickly! They took a cloth off the table and used it to cover the eyes of the statue, stopping the life force drain! Motley and Mellisandre came in and congratulated them on their quick thinking!

Mellisandre gave them a riddle, and they gave the correct answer! So the team gained a 'joker' playing card, and exited the room.

sadly we never got to see them use the Joker card, because the next room was the Block and Tackle. Walked too quickly to the left, and the floor crumbled away causing Jeremy to fall down... Ooh, nasty!

Next team was Giles's team. The first couple of scenes seemed to have been edited a lot, notice how quickly they decide what to do with the Spindizzy and get onto the 'cup' path!

Even Treguard's speech sounds edited "Now listen team cut Choose now, the quest..." etc. I think they cut out the bit with Treguard explaining about the place of choice and what the two paths are, as well as Pickle saying 'make them choose'.

Is this Challenge editing, or how the original was?
