WIN AN 'ENTER STRANGER' T-Shirt [ENTER NOW!] -
Thoughts on VRInteresting point about watching other people play a computer game. But wasn't the original show just watching others play their game?
Personally I think avataring dungeoneers is slightly risky because it may de-humanise the player a bit, but not completely. Real people are still playing like they always were, it's only the appearance and movements of the dungeoneer and characters that stop it from being exactly like it was before.
I agree with you that the interaction of the players is something that can be flawed by avataring. You can't beat reality when interaction is concerned.
Does anyone think that, with all this fantastically animated new dungeon, a real dungeoneer would look out of place now?

Re:End of The LineIt looks like we won't have to wait very long before we have Knightmare back, guys. James P mentioned KM's return yesterday in a thread called 'The adventure game when did it start?' on the Challenge forum.
It's probably not been confirmed yet though. I was expecting a much longer wait before news of further repeats.
-
Re:End of The LineI think it's a good thing that Challenge are resting it for now. Hopefully it'll return after a few months. It's also a good thing Series 1 and 2 have only been aired the once, because I'm sure Challenge will want to repeat them at some point, and get a return out of them.

Series 8 - Episode 1I don't like getting particularly picky, but isn't it illogical to everyone that a massive red dragon cannot fit through a six foot door? Still, I suppose it's no different from the Trolls in series 7. The dragon looks good anyway.
Gideon is one of the most memorable advisors. Kind of felt sorry for the other two, who couldn't get a word in edgeways.

Series 8 Episode 4Maybe I missed something, but which item could this team have bartered with? There was a key, a glove and a needle, not really trading material. Did they just give up the SIGHT potion too readily? Honesty said the key was 'of some interest', so did they need to persuade him to trade for that?
A little bit unfair I guess, but hey, this is KM, right?

Series 8 - Episode 3Good episode. I think that the progressively longer and harder levels adopted in this series is the ideal situation. Let's face it, a quest only becomes really interesting when a team reaches level two. Don't you just hate it when a team dies in level three, and you realise you have to start watching from level one again?

Great Knightmare MysteriesMaybe other dimensions other than our own interact with the Dungeon - children from many worlds may take part in the Greater Game. Who knows...?
Very interesting idea this. It was a very clever idea to begin with - to make the dungeon a realm that constantly morphs. In doing so they could do anything they wanted with the future series. As far as Dimension jumping goes, the only knowledge I have of that is from Red Dwarf.
You're right, the same logic can easily be applied to the dungeon because of its fluid nature.
You can speculate on what would have happened with some of those uncast spells. TREAT would probably have summoned a hobgoblin or similar nastiness.
GLORY and BACKFIRE would have guaranteed certain death for the dungeoneer.
Wouldn't it have been good to see a dungeoneer pledge allegiance to Mogdred? Just to see what would happen.

The Descender jamming between floors. The idea of Charon and the Styx could be a great one to use in VR. I always thought the Styx was supposed to be a river deep down in underground caverns. An underground Styx as an entrance to Level 3 would be cool.
And a reintroducing of Festus may well be in order. If only we could see him this time...
-
Great Knightmare MysteriesExactly how many dungeoneers have trod the path? Treguard is meant to have conquered the dungeon (according to the books). And in series three, by which time there had been roughly 20 quests, Mogdred says "defy me and you will fail - like hundreds before you".
The only conclusion must be that many more dungeoneers have undertaken quests. Which means there have been MANY more (imaginary) phases of Knightmare prior to series one. What I wouldn't give to see those.

The Descender jamming between floors.I think both the Boatman and Brother Strange go to the same tailor. They both go for the 'scruffy cowl hiding face' look.
Do you think the boatman is meant to be Charon, the dead guy that rows souls to Hades (AKA Level 3)?

Favourite obstacles?Actually, I think the new one, 'Slice Me Dice Me' would be in there somewhere as well. It's a nasty piece of work.
-
Favourite obstacles?Anyone want do a top ten of favourite dangerous rooms? Mine is here in order of excellence.

Corridor of Blades
-
Block and Tackle
-
Causeway (S6)
-
Mined Chamber (S2)
-
Ariadne's Lair (S4)
-
Play your Cards Right
-
Stained Glass Window Chamber (S3)
Transporter Pads (S4)
- Mills of Doom (S2)
10)Guillotine Door (S2)
I think some of the best ones are when the dungeoneer needs to leave quickly, like a bomb room or Ariadne's Lair. Those ones really make you panic.

Dream SeriesGood question. For actual cast characters I'd take:
Merlin, Lord Fear/Mogdred (either/or), Motley, Malice, Sylvester Hands, Hordriss, Mellisandra, Mrs Grimwold, Julius Scaramonger, Brother Mace, Skarkill, Elita, Lissard, Ridolfo, Morghanna
For creatures I'd have:
Golgarach, Oakley, Goblins (and the odd hobgoblin), Ogres, Oracles, Cavernwights, Pookas, Ghosts, Dreadnort, Smirkenorf (but not to ride on though). Oh, and Ariadne is a must have.

Series 6 - Episode 15I think Chris was probably the most assertive dungeoneer ever. I think the team would have stood a good chance of redeeming the sword if there was time.
If only there was that vital sixteenth episode, there may have been 9 teams on the roll of honour rather than 8. Shame.
-
Series 7 - Episode 1Which episodes of series seven are being shown this weekend? I thought it was approaching the end of the series, but from what I saw earlier, it looks like it's only half way through.
Anyone got an answer? I've lost track of the episodes I need to see.
-
Wall monstersI like Golgarach, and the way he said 'Listen, puny Flesh' like no other. Clue rooms should have proper guardians, where dungeoneers have to earn the correct choice of objects. Scrolls in the later series were good to keep the pace quick, but there was much less effort needed to choose well.

Re:Childish? My family don't ridicule me for watching KM, I'm an adult and can decide for myself what I like in a TV programme (not soaps or Reality TV). But I don't think they know why I care about it so much. To them it's "What's all the fuss about a kids show?" It's more than a little irritating, isn't it?
It's no longer purely a kids show anyway. Maybe when it was first aired, but no longer. I'd say it appeals to as many adults as it does children at the moment.

Knightmare VR ruined the classicEven if KMVR isn't as good as we all hope, I don't think anything could ever ruin the originals. They are already well established as classics. With a bit of luck VR could be too.

Knightmare VR Pilot DiscussionExcellent! I too was hoping for this oppurtunity, having only seen a couple of clips so far. It will be good to finally see the pilot in full. Thanks for letting us know, BVA.
