Simply Ariadne. For no purpose other than she was a giant spider. She may not have had a constant huge effect to the programme but she terrified me!

Ariadne because she's well, huge, and Mr Grimwold! Freaked me out when i was little!
Mr Grimwold never scared me at all for some reason, although Ariadne, in S4 especially, was rather nasty.
I'd say Assassins were pretty nasty too, with all of the tension built around them. The actual teams tended to look rather scared, to boot.

Im not scared of her... just annoyed that she put a stop to so many quests
What about those crunching, munching noises though :o. I used to be scared of the goblins but probably moreso the warning siren. I think I used to dream about quests and that the siren kept going, like they were constantly being followed.

I'd say the Trolls of Series 7 & 8 were the ones that I found scary. When I was a wee lad (6, when I started to watch it, halfway through Series 6), I remember hearing one for the first time. I was scared stiff! Then I look at them now, & think "What's so scary about them? It's just a computer enlarged man in a suit!"! Ah well, childhood memories...

Thinking about it, only Mr. G is really scary. He looks too much like Jeremy Beadle...Beadle chasing dungeoneers through Dunkley Wood. Now there's a scary thought!

The scariest monster (if you can call it that)was the scorpion and it's stinging tail for me.
