Portal sounds
-
The sounds weren't quite like that...
Series 1 and 2 had a whoose of air. Series 3-5 had a higher-pitched whoosh (with series 3 also having a zoom-in and sound of the door closing). Series 6-8 had some strange effect - possibly a highly-processed thunderbolt.
I think I like series 3's the best.

I shall have to wait until June 7 to find out what the early one sounded like. I can't remember.
The later series sounded more magical, as though the dungeoneer was being whisked away, but I loved the clanking of series three. The idea of onward and downward, no turning back seemed re-inforced by doors slamming shut behind them.

I don't like the look of portals when they are outside the dungeon, they look really out of place, I prefered elve paths. It helped when the portal was in a tree or a hovel, but they looked a bit stupid there in the middle of the forest.
Here's a question how come they only ever used elf paths on 2 quests in series 4?
Sorry for going off topic

i like 6 to 8but ifyou notice or s it just me on the 1st quest with matt and friends in s6 they go through the dwarf tunnels and into the hall of choice whre the sound effect is again different (and much better might i say!!)

I like the "whoosh" noise that Broadsword used for its credit at the end of the episode.

The clanging of the cell doors in Series 3 was definately an effective addition, in my opinion. I also liked how the screen zoomed in as the dungeoneers walked through, as if we (the audience) were physically following them from room to room.
As someone else pointed out.. it really hit home the impression of "no turning back".
Unfortunately with Series 4 venturing outside and the invention of "elf portals", it was no longer possible to use that sound
But sound effects-wise, I really liked the weird clanging noise of S6-8. No idea what it was meant to be, but it was cool.

I like the random one we got in the second room of episode 1 season 6 bit of a strange one but could have been very effective. It would have been nice to have had different portal sounds for ech level showing eeriness for level 3

I agree that would have been a really good touch.
I also liked the one-off portal sound used at the very start of Season 6 quest 1, wonder why it was only used that one time.
