Series 1 - Episode 2
-
The gong made its debut in this episode.
A fair few of the characters in this series have yet to make their debut because they're based in Level Two and no team has managed to get there yet.
Doubtless the first team in today's episode didn't read the rules properly, or at least didn't interpret them intelligently enough. The Adventurer's Code states that a Dungeoneer may carry a "maximum of two" objects. This implies that if you can carry two, you ruddy well take two!
Series 1 suffers in a similar way to series 4 and 7 in terms of repetitive dialogue, I think. Series 2 improves vastly, though, with a lot more variation. I'll say no more, though.

Not to bad,
But i don't like the way Treguard has to repeat the rules of the clue room questions right after the monster as said it.
2-0 so far, We had a team locked in a black room and died of starvation and another fell to there death thanks to the evil Lilith.. well if you could call that falling..
And i think the Actors.. who with seen are still getting into character.. Treguard still doesn't sounds quite right... but season one was never at best.. it just special..and when your trying something new for the 1st time you can't expect it to work straight away.

Haven't seen the episode, but something I'm in fact surprised that was not mentioned: Treguard saying "This one is called Olgarth..." when it was Granitas. I'm wondering whether:
a) Hugo Myatt made a genuine mistake (teething problems) and Guy Standeven ad-libbed (and it was decided to continue the theme) (my personal opinion), or
b) it was all scripted
I think the former, but what does everyone else think?

I think this is a case though of watching Series 3-8 on Challenge which are all great series, and then when watching Series 1, it just seems a bit rubbish and very outdated, and its just something we havnt been used to in seeing. Its still good to watch it from Series 1 again though
Well, as I've said I haven't watched KM for many months now - missed series 5-8.
When this first series was shown on Sci-fi, we'd just watched series 8, I don't know, a year before? At the time I assumed it was an all-new series and it had just changed channels - and I wasn't too happy about it I thought "whoa, this new series is crap" - I thought they'd really messed it up having not seen it the first time around. Sadly we got rid of cable TV a week later so I couldn't see it anymore...
-
It feels scripted to me, it seems Treguard is just waiting for the joke to be broken.
In my opinion, it's a recurring joke in every team's quest. Whichever monster (Olgarth or Granitas) Treguard says, it'll always be the other one
At least, that's how it was in Series 2 if I remember right.
Are we going to see Igneous of Legend in the 'red' clue room? Or is that another season?

I'm afraid you don't remember right. That joke never surfaced in season 2 at all. Just as well really, it was getting awfully tired before season 1 finished.

just been watching this ep. im thinking although mave's team scored 3, i'm sure they thought they were only allowed one item. and if you watch after they've taken 1, treguard actually hurries them out of the room! team 1 got "you need to take some items". tad unfair methinks but then again series 1 was harsh as most of them had no idea what it was gonna be like. -
i dunno if they were even informed. not like treguard told them even once to take 2. they took the soap and he went "QUICK BEFORE ANOTHER WALL MONSTER APPEARS"???. mave moved quicker than most which was nice as when they're like "MOVE FORWARD" and they take a whole step its soo annoying
-
This team did not surprise me the siulliness of them, fair enough knightma
re was a new concept then butnthey should have followed treguards advice and also read the ule book mre carefully, if youre allowed to take 2 objects surely you would???
Oh well they were from my hom town so , well their intelligence didnt surprise me (sarcastic tone there lol)

Some thoughts (aided by a few JD & cokes):
Team 2: there has been some discussion about whether Treguard hurried them out of the clue room, therefore the taking of only one item. I think they'd already decided to just take the soap when Treguard gave his wall monster spiel but he certainly didn't help. A latter day Treguard would surely have pointed out that they could take two items.
Also, they gave me a lol: "I can see the table" (guide dungeoneer to table in convoluted manner).
Team 3: glad the whole remembering symbols nonsense has been sorted - you use what you take!
Now, with the level 1 clue room appearing for the third time in two episodes, the show is becoming dangerously repetitive. If I was the producer, I'd be pretty desperate for team 3 to make it to level 2, lest ratings fall off and KM go down as an interesting failed experiment...
Was the future of KM in the hands of 4 lads from Yorkshire?

I've only just noticed that when Maeve arrives in the clue room, her advisor describes it as "a green room with a table". Eh?? Were they accidentally shown the studio without the background image? (Even if they were, wouldn't it be blue rather than green?) Most odd!

I understand what your saying. I thought is was a bit harsh Treguard not mentioning you can take 2 objects. It was still early days though and I guess the producers were still getting to grip with things. Plus Treguard was portrayed as a menacing character to begin with.
-
But team 1 almost left without taking an item and were told they must take something. Maybe team 2 didn't read the rule book.
There's that symbol again, and this time they were clued to take it.
Also, that snake was pathetic lol.
Bomb rooms seem quite frequent also.
If you can see the table then tell him to walk over to it, not guild him around the room like a robot.
Ah Season 1, frustrating, slow but clearly proves the show has load of potential but still needs work. Good job they did stick with it.

I do like Treguard's speeches in this episode, and the way Hugo Myatt delivers them with such relish, particularly the remark about trouble with the cleaners. He must have had to take on housekeeping (or keepkeeping?) duties himself; because in Series 3, Mogdred calls him a cleaner of cells.
It should be clear by now that the Knightmare Dungeon is no typical prison. It's not so much a case of "don't drop the soap" as "don't get dropped into a chasm with the soap".
It's been said in earlier posts that sidestepping was pioneered in Quest 4 of this series. But it turns out that the first step sideways was in this episode, in Quest 3 (during the exiting of the Giant's chamber). Direction: to the left. Dungeoneer's name: Simon.
