LOL. I agree: the closest resemblance is to a pork pie. But then the cherry kinda doesn't fit. Ho hum.

In any case, that settles it. I'm calling it the life force quiche from now on.

        I certainly never liked the cake/pie/thing. All the beautiful eerie life force sequences we'd had before - and then the damn cake. And Level on on series 8 was very samey. {sigh}

PS Ark are you now back in the world of the internet? I've noticed you posting a lot!

Me and Kieran are fiercely debating now - is it REALLY a cherry on top, or is it a pork pie dimple????

Anyway if it is a pork pie dimple I think that's really insulting to all vegetarian dungeoneers. Have dungeoneers gotten food which was meat before?

And why does the inside of the pie look red? What's it filled with to make it look so horrible? Strawberries? Blood?

            mmm... blood pie....

i always thought it was a cherry on the top and therefore the red colour was due to it being cherry pie.

but i do like the blood pie idea

I hated the green lighting and smokey type stuff in the antechamber of series 8. SUCKWORTHY! I turned on km at the beginning of the season and was like "That's not Knightmare! That's a Thriller setting dumped in some random Castle!"

              Grr.

How about we call a truce on the pie/cake thing and call it a piecake or a tart?

I think actually, a tart is usually more aimed at being a savory type of pie (yes I know, treacle tart etc) but a tart is more savory!! According to Delia Smith

It's supposed to be a mischievous spirit. Shakespeare's "Puck" is derived from the word Pooka. On Knightmare it's a big green scary googly thing.

I still think it's a cherry on top of the piecaketart.

And I'm still calling it a Quiche. [stamps foot]

If the tart solution still causes too much controversy, call it a Quiche! I'm a lot happier since I converted from the anguish of the pie/cake dilemma to the satisfaction of calling it something ever so slightly silly. And it's a good truce, too, since we'd all know that it's probably not really a quiche. Nothing to argue about then.

                                      Good fun, though!

I hope this potential new series has an original-style life force clock. They could use the avatar technology to build a clock based on each dungeoneer's own face. This would emphasise that fact that it was their own life force. Apart from that, I never forgave 'em for introducing that walking skeleton!  😉

                                        It's definitely a pie.

No cake looks like that. It has a crust! The "cherry" is not round or shiny enough to be a cherry. It's elliptical and looks like a small hole in the middle of the pastry, revealling the content. This makes sense as the inside of the pie is the exact same colour. There are pies with holes in the top, such as this one...

                                        http://www.cyberbilly.com/image2/PorkPie1.jpg

The reason the content is so red is presumably artistic licence. The drab colour of meat probably looked too boring for the show and so they spiced it up with red, which makes it look more medieval as presumably meat was bloodier back then.

Finally, common sense tells you it's a pie. Why would a dark show like Knightmare use a cherry cake to represent energy?

Perhaps this could be one of the things to vote on elsewhere in this site. Something like:

Which of the following best describes the life force icon used in Series 8?

                                          • Pie

                                          • Cake

                                          • Tart

                                          • Quiche (YES YES YES PICK THIS ONE)

                                          • Delicious

                                          • Not as good as the life force face

The correct answer, of course, is quiche.
