I don't remember the title but I've only ever read one of the Knightmare "choose your path" books.

I remember one of the puzzles though..."If you want to meet a brute simply take the castle route, if a bishop you would see, take his way and walk free"...or somthing along those lines.

Yeah, well my local libraries used to have most of the Knightmare books, but not any more (old books seem to get sold in the ex-library book sales from time to time).

it was 'if a bishop you would be, take his steps for passage free' i think... (oh i am so sad for knowing that off the top of my head).

i cheated blatantly at those books.  and i ate them.

              kinda wish i hadn't now.

if anyone likes those choose your own path books, i was speaking to a company at gencon who are re-releasing a set.  i can probably get more information on the names and stuff as frank got one of the books.  not knightmare related but meh.

I'm not quite sure what your last question refers to. If you haven't already seen it, there's some information about them here:

Good condition second hand Knightmare books still seem to be widely available on sites such as www.ebay.co.uk or www.amazon.co.uk.

I've got a Knightmare book somewhere, can't find it though.

From what I remember, I think half or it's a story, then the other half is a quest.  You get choices and then go to differet pages depending on what choice you made.

                        Eg:

On the table you find Gold, a Potion and a Glove.  If you take:

Gold & Potion - Turn to page 37

Potion & Glove - Turn to page 65

Glove & Gold  - Turn to page 24

And it goes on until you either win, or die  😕

The first four all starred Treguard in the story part, and as far as I know the last three had children as the main characters, with Treguard being more of a guest star.

                              A wonderful morning to everybody!

Yes.  In the one I read Treguard set out on a real quest with fighting and horses etc.

I was really happy to find that I've still got all my old KM novels . It's interesting to see how the first four are actually quite teen-adult orientated - what with all the snatches of gritty mediaeval history mixed in with some of the darker aspects of the Arthurian legends. Treguard's boyhood tragedy is actually quite like the story of Hereward the Wake; a Saxon lord whose family was killed and lands confiscated by the Normans. Of course, the later KM books are a lot more child-focused and the adventures seem a lot easier.

What do people think of the novels in general and what are your favourites? I know one or two people who've said they actually got quite interested in history by reading the early ones. I just wish there were more of them!

Something like this might have been talked about before, but this gives the knewbies a chance to talk about it.

I tended to give the gamebook sections far more attention than the novels. The one novel section that I like to reread is the riddle contest between Treguard and Arawn in the second book.

Oh, I still have all mine too, which is a miracle after all these years. i used to love the books, especially the first 4, and the stories were excellent. The first 2 were combined favourites, I loved the Gruagatch or whatever he was called in the first one, a really great evil baddie. I always liked to imagine Treguard off having all those adventures, I have to say. Though the last books were a little too childish for me, the stories were still quite good, I liked the spookiness of the Road to Babylon or whatever it was in Book 5, the name of which now escapes me. The last book, Lord Fear's Domain, was nowhere near as good though. I prefered the gamebook and novel combo, this was more like a (bad) Usbourne Puzzle Adventure...
