I see him looking at the camera and all I can think is "I say you lot... bog off."

David Learner on Countdown (1986) -
Series 7 - Episode 10The troll stalking Team 5 all through Level 2 was an unusual and effective addition to this quest. It's very sinister.
It's a shame the team messed up and the producers had to bring the troll in prematurely to kill them off.
Presumably, had the team played the level successfully, there would have been a face-off with the troll at the end or near the end of the level. Probably using the letters they collected to cast a spell to escape it.
It's an interesting idea that I think could have been used again (not necessarily with a troll but with other antagonists as well). Just to have a running threat all through a level. It's funny they didn't revisit this idea again.

Series 7 - Episode 1I've never been one of these people who have a problem with Majida. I've always quite liked her.
The only thing I dislike about her is that unlike Pickle she knows nothing. Pickle was useful being introduced in S4 as he knew things about the forests and elf paths outside of the dungeon walls just as Treguard knew about the things within the dungeon walls.
Majida doesn't really offer anything like that. She serves a purpose with being a "voice" for the audience, asking questions for Tregaurd to answer. Basically he's explaining things to the viewer without it seeming like he is.
And she does a really good job of playing the role in my opinion. I like her sassy-ness. She has a fun relationship with Treguard and is more feisty than Pickle despite being less knowledgeable. But the lack of knowledge does give her a lack of depth somewhat IMO.

Series 7 - Episode 1It's "He go back to forest to be happy elf."

Series 6 - Episode 15I never expected to say anything positive about the incidental music in Series 6, but I noticed something fun.
When you next watch this episode, pay attention to the music when Chris is running through the dwarf tunnels to the Cloudwalker. Then compare it to the music in Doctor Who episode Rose when the Ninth Doctor (another Chris) and Rose are running to the London Eye (a track known as Westminster Bridge).
I'm just making my way through Series 5 and it's so mind-numbingly still and quiet that I'll never dislike the Series 6+ incidental music. The only repeated criticism I've seen of it seems to be the fallacy that it "gives away when a Dungeoneer is about to die" which is just completely wrong. Whilst it is used in most deaths, it is FAR from used on only those occasions. More often than not it is actually used when Dungeoneers *escape *death, thus it really does achieve its goal of adding tension because when it starts, you know the Dungoneer is in peril but you genuinely have no idea whether they're about to die or not. Of course, you could say that this is also the case with no music at all, except that at least the music adds atmosphere and removes that awful clinicial TV studio-set silence.

Eye Shield Sequences - is it possible ...I would say that would be almost impossible to do in 1990. As for today, it would be possibly but very very time consuming.
I think they did once insert a pooka-type woodland haunting into an eyeshield sequence but only briefly.
My issue with the eye shield sequences is that they were too long/slow and too frequent. I actually don't mind them at all as an idea. I think they are a great way of showing the Dungeoneer going from place to place. If only they weren't used SO much (mainly talking about S4 and S5). I just don't for the life of me understand why whoever filmed them walked SO slowly.

Series 5 Episode 6The whole clue object choice thing is partly what I was waffling about when I said I could see why they were hesitant about offering the gem to Elita. I can think of a few reasons why they might not want to give it to her:
-
Pickle has said some rather nasty things about her. It's at least plausible to think she might not be wholly trustworthy, although the evidence from their own Quest doesn't really support that, since she held to the bargain over getting them a ride on Smirkenorff.
-
She's conducting some kind of ritual, thus I think they're not totally dense to ask what she wants to do with the ruby. If she's using it to summon evil spirits, create more disgusting and downright offensive clothing like her current attire, or something equally evil, then our "Truth and Justice" motto would perhaps make us question if we want to give her the means for the rite.
-
Elita's unwilling to tell them much about what help she'll offer them in return for the ruby.
-
"The key to my dungeon is the jewel in my crown." Note my dungeon, my crown. This is, I guess, Lord Fear's Dungeon, so it's at least plausible that the right thing to do is to keep the gem for the final encounter and not waste in on a smelly little cavern elf with no dress sense. It's also possible, of course, that the clue just meant "take the jewel because you'll need it", but I'm arguing not that it was needed later on, but that I can see why they had reservations about giving it to Elita.
GG does like trying to help excuse teams just a little, to balance out being rather bitchy about them. GG also seems to like making nice orderly lists. 1. 2. 3. Mmmmm, nice lists.
This is a very old post (only 20 years later haha) but I'd like to thank you for this as it offers some understanding to the team's actions that I hadn't thought about before. I always thought it was annoying that this team took so long deciding to give Elita the gem, but with the reasons you mentioned it does make it more understandable.

Things you wish Tim Child was asked but he never is.Is this website feedback?
-
Things you wish Tim Child was asked but he never is.I have been reading a few Knightmare interviews (and listening to podcasts) with Tim Child this week, and I think it's a bit of a shame those who conduct them never take it upon themselves to research what's already been asked lots of times and maybe ask fans/viewers about things that have never been asked before but would be interesting to know.
Do you have a general Knightmare query that you would love Tim to answer one day but he never gets asked about it?
Maybe future interviewers could find this thread if so.
-
Where is Smirkenorff now? This has probably been answered before but does anyone know where the actual model/puppet of Smirky ended up after Knightmare finished?
-
Knightmare Actor's and Hitchhiker's.Very different!

Link to forum on main websiteIn that case you could maybe consider putting a link to the forum at the top of the homepage instead of near the bottom. I do think the existence of the forum is very hidden at the moment.
-
Is the forum broken?Yes, I'm getting the same issue.
-
Link to forum on main websiteI genuinely think you should consider putting a link to the forum on the top heading where the other links are.
At the moment, the only link is right down at the bottom of the site which relies on people scrolling that far to even see it, and most likely would only scroll to it already knowing that there IS a forum and they're looking for the link.
Not that there's gonna be hundreds of new members or anything, but I do think people coming to the website for the first time should see that there's a forum much more easily.
It really is kind of hidden at the moment.
Just an idea (I've always thought it since the redesign years ago but kept forgetting to say something )

If you were trying to introduce someone new to Knightmare, which season would you start with?I also came here to say Series 6.
Even though a few elements that I love about older Knightmare are lost by Series 6, I do think the series as a whole has become slick and interesting by this point. The episodes are faster-paced, the quests contain longer running "plots" that continue through numerous rooms, and the introduction of the atmospheric/tension music really helps to kill the "boring" feel of some of the earlier episodes. Some of those early episodes are so still and quiet, that when a dungeoneer is being slow it's painstaking. With the introduction of the sinister music it really helps to make the adventure feel more exciting.
I think for a modern 2023 person who'd never seen the show before, they'd really struggle getting through more than a couple of episodes of Series 1.
However, if you could make them fall in love with the "higher production value" of Series 6 then they'd be more likely to want to go back and see how it all began.

AI KnightmareOut of curiousity, I tried giving an AI image generator some Knightmare-related image instructions.
In particular, I asked for images of Treguard skiing. Here's what it came up with
treguard_skiing.jpg
I think it did surprisingly well!
It's surprisingly good! What AI did you use?

Being DISMISSed vs. "previous dungeoneers" as floating skullsHow dark!
And as the OP said, a little inconsistent with what we're told/shown happens to dungeoneers. But not REALLY because it can simply be explained away as a different reality.
-
What brought the characters back to Knightmare Dungeon? In general that's probably true, but I wouldn't say so with Lillith; the path still went through the Serpent's Mouth Cavern in season 3, but Lillith had gone.
Oh true she was a bad example haha. Maybe she was in the toilet.
-
Being DISMISSed vs. "previous dungeoneers" as floating skullsI honestly don't remember Treguard ever saying they were past dungeoneers but if they were, I don't see it as an inconsistency. It's clearly stated from the beginning that the dungeon reality is different to our own, so they're obviously just remnants of whatever life force remained when the dungeoneer was killed.
