    Series 8

It's now 25 years ago since this episode was originally broadcast, so it's definitely time for an update on what would have happened if the team was to win.

Treguard and Majida would have explained about Team 1's death and Lord Fear's claim on Bhal-Shebah.

The team would have greeted the dragon then tell it about how capable or incapable it was using info from the Level 3 spy glass session. But I think there would have had to be a little more than that. I have been looking at some Doctor Who scenes from the Sylvester McCoy era like when the Doctor confronted the Dalek Supreme and carried on talking to it until it was defeated. I think Daniel would have used a so called 'deadly term' called 'Go Ahead' i.e. "Go ahead, kill me." Sounds crazy, but I think the dragon would then have argued whether to kill him or not i.e Bhal would have assumed that permission was to be given while Shebah would have argued that it was to be a dare - therefore not do it. The Doctor talked to two snipers into disarming themselves by telling them to kill him in The Happiness Patrol - he knew they couldn't kill him.

With the dragon arguing and descending into the pit, Daniel would have drawn the sword but maybe the dragon was to stop arguing after a while and start to ascend again, making the team do exit quickly.

For the SAVANT escape, Treguard would have told Majida about Hordriss. He would have told her that Hordiss can be summoned, but only if he was still in the dungeon, knowing that Merlin was long gone. I think that Maldame didn't tell the team everything about the spell. If I am right, only one name could have been used - once a name was used that was to be it. The team would have had to deliberate whether or not Hordriss could get them out before casting the spell and decide very quickly, as Lord Fear had a cunning plan. I don't think Lord Fear would have turned up unless the team called Maldame. If the team was to call Hordriss, he would have got them out through the sewer using technomancy.

I am very happy now that if Team 2 was to win, they would have needed to find Hordriss. It's definite because he was the only sorcerer left. They had the SAVANT spell to summon him but as they did not earn that very name, they also needed to ask either Maldame or Bhal-Shebah in order to do so. If they were supposed to ask Maldame if she knew any mages, then the team had entered 'losing status' - they would have been forced to call her even though she forbade them. Otherwise it would have come from Bhal-Shebah. I originally didn't take the dragon guarding the quest object seriously because I thought that the team would not have stood a chance come what may, as it killed the first team. But now I am very happy that Daniel would have been able to defeat the dragon by convincing it to argue with itself in order to not only save themselves but also earn just one more piece of information - the name 'Hordriss'. Therefore, the need to call Maldame would have been averted. Then in the side chamber, somewhere quiet, they would have just needed to summon Hordriss by casting the SAVANT spell and then calling out that very name aloud before Lord Fear's cunning plan is put into use. If the mage's name was to come from Bhal-Shebah, I think it would have argued about the mage's magic not working so well close to Lord Fear and his normal hatred of technomancy, resulting in the team thinking if Hordriss would be able to get the team out of Marblehead and back to the antechamber.

I wonder what Tim Child think of this. Note that when I reviewed the Corridor Of Blades entrance, I take it that the team's last day's recording had just started. Have a look at the first advisor's skullcap when the team walk through the Marblehead corridors and the COB entrance. There is a significant difference! Therefore, I wonder if the production crew had to make a start on the would-be endgame i.e plot it. This is a very good hint for any of the crew who cannot remember all those years ago.

I will certainly have to review all the episodes to know how many dungeoneers pleaded with the advisors. By the way, what about Lord Fear saying that Bhal-Shebah's guard duty was only as good as a gerbil? Would Daniel had been able to just get the sword and leave? If so, then I think I know what the argument would have been about in Episode 4 had his team survived the blades. An argument is impossible to happen without a subject!

Did you watch any episodes of Series 1-3 with a team using the term 'I command you' before you took part? The last team to use it was Team 4 of Series 3 (Leo's) with the Brangwen She. If so then that is the problem with old phrases, etc, for example calling Hordriss using his calling name three times without earning it in a quest i.e earning it from a previous quest on the television. 'The dungeon is obscure so any knowledge of previous quests will be of little use,' said Treguard.

Had Julie made a run for it down the corridors of Goth, Lord Fear would have caught up with her again the moment the ARKEN magic had worn off before killing her off for sure. Running away forever would have been a silly idea so summoning a sorcerer or sorceress was the only way for a chance to escape. But why would Hordriss not have got from Level 1 to Level 3 in time via magic? Magic is not supposed to work like that! It doesn't matter how far away a wizard is! I mean if Greystagg was in Level 1 would she have got to Julie in time? I think I know why. I think the production team had to avoid something that would have spoiled the endgame. I mean the team might have seen a quest when Hordriss was summoned before they took part. I'm afraid that is the trouble with older characters like Hordriss!

    Series 8

Why didn't magic seem to work on Snapper Jack? Be honest though! When Dunstan encountered him at the Marblehead Junction, it seemed that the team had ignored Treguard's warning. When the advisors instructed Dunstan to open the bottle, Treguard continued to warn and with that failing, Snapper Jack had to convince the dungeoneer not to. Did the producton crew act to prevent the Palladin bottle from being opened at the wrong time? Dunstan had his hand on the stopper and was going to take it off the bottle. Snapper Jack had to intervene himself to make sure that the bottle remained unopened. I have been thinking about Major Charles Ingram on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire at the same time when he was signalled not to go for 'Berlin' on his £500,000 question. In Dunstan's quest, the production crew I believe had to use every pull out all the stops to make sure that the team did not enter 'losing status' at that point. The production crew could not afford to kill off teams at certain times like in the middle of the final episode of each season for example.

Yes, I was the first who made a mentioning of Knightmare on Teletext some time ago. I remember that Mr Bamboozle was 'taking a break' over the 1993 Christmas period.

  • Team 2 Bhal-Shebah conclusion
    A avenueroad
    Series 8

I think I am coming to the end of reaching a conclusion on what would have happened if the boys survived the Corridor of Blades. I have been meeting with someone on Google+ regarding Series 8 Episode 4. I have been thinking about the team's would-be endgame very hard for a very long time and I have now realised that the would-be argument between Bhal-Shebah would have been about a mage called Hordriss, his own magic and techno magic. Why?

LORD FEAR Look, he's not only Bhal-Shebah, but he's Bhal AND Shebah in one skin, and they don't even like each other. Some smart witty dungeoneer spots that he's only going to be about as much use as guard duty as a gerbil!

So what would you do if a gerbil was in the quest chamber and not anything or anyone else? Ignore it? I would have! That would have meant that it would have been enough to just take the sword and leave as if the dragon weren't even there! But the production team didn't want the team to just do that without having a word with the dragon first, otherwise the quest chamber scene would have lasted for just 30 seconds! They had to do something to make the duration of the quest chamber longer.

MALDAME I shall give you this gem, and I will give to you the calling spell SAVANT. It will call any mage or sorcerer to you, up to and including the fourth level of magic. But you must use the name of any wizard you call.

This meant two things. One, after casting the SAVANT spell, the dungeoneer would have had to call out aloud the name of any mage or sorcerer like 'Maldame' for example. The word 'mage' was a very big word to me. If a mage were to be summoned, who would it have been? Hordriss, of course! He was the only mage in the dungeon! He also referred to his reputation as a 'savant' in Series 7, just after Barry foiled a trap set by Lord Fear and prevented him from falling in love with Lissard, disguised as Marta. And two, the spell would not have automatically summoned her or anyone else; they had to 'know' the name first - hence the spell being called SAVANT - from the French verb 'savoir' - 'to know'. With only Maldame that they knew, they would have had to call her.

MALDAME Beware! Call me, and I shall shliver you for your temerity! Now, leave me!

A big problem for the team. The team were on 'Maldame' status i.e they were potentially forced to call her. With no appearances or mentionings of any other sorcerers, they would have been forced to do so UNLESS they earned the name of another sorcerer at short notice whilst inside the fortress. With the spyglass session already gone, if they were to receive a different name they would have got it from Bhal-Shebah; they would have had to talk to the dragon about a mage or sorcerer. I think it would have argued with itself about Hordriss and his capibilities of his own magic and his hatred of techno magic. They then would have no longer been on 'Maldame' status as they would not have been forced to call Maldame with the SAVANT spell after all, although they would have taken into account of Hordriss' own magic being powerless close to Lord Fear's domain and his general hatred of techno magic, which would have been mentioned during the dragon's own argument. I can see now why the production team didn't want the team to call her! If she allowed the team to call her, one, the dragon scene would have lasted too short, two, they wouldn't have thought carefully about Hordriss' limitations regarding magic, three, I think Maldame wanted to make sure she stayed away from Lord Fear, as he froze her during the Level 2 spyglass session and four, she wanted to move house from Marblehead to Linghorm; she demanded Lord Fear to give her the wordkey. He refused.

Would you like to have a go writing a scene on what it would have been like if the boys made it to the quest room? First things first, I would have greeted Bhal and Shebah separately so I would know which voice would have been Bhal's and which voice would have been Shebah's. I would use evidence from Series 6 when Treguard revealed that Hordriss' own magic does not work close to Lord Fear and from Series 8 when Hordriss led Dunstan to the sewer pipe through Marblehead's side chamber. He said that he normally hated techno-magic. It would have made the team think I think. Also note that Gideon would have laughed hysterically to Bhal-Shebah's arguing.

Also regarding Lord Fear's own cunning plan, which do you think would have happened? Lissard confronting the dungeoneer before the SAVANT spell is casted, Lissard hiding in a sewer to guide Daniel through an open door into an ambush with Lord Fear on the other side, using the voice of one of the advisors or nobody confronting the dungeoneer; the SAVANT spell would be casted then 'Hordriss' would be called out aloud and then he would take them out through a wall into a hidden tunnel with Lissard arrivng too little too late? Note that the production team did not write endgames until the last minute; Dunstan's Lord Fear showdown was not written until he got to the quest room! They didn't have a lot of time to make endgames too complicated as a result. Also note that Lord Fear gave Lissard the wordkey into Marblehead although he might possibly have got involved in confronting Daniel along with Lissard, as he was able to teleport.

Note that I have been looking at several scenes of Knightmare evidence and some outside of Knightmare like Doctor Who for example when the Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) caused the Rani's huge brain to have an argument; the Rani was forced to disconnect the Doctor as a result). I originally thought that the team wouldn't have stood a chance with the dragon because it killed the first team directly.

    General Discussion

Regarding the last teams of Series 2-6 and 8, not only it was unfair for those teams about being told like 'Sorry, the path is closing', they were lotteries. I think that the Lotteries And Amusements Act 1976 was breached, as the outcome for those were 'non-skill'.

  • Knightmare movie?

    Series 8

I suggest a movie or drama based on Knightmare, based on Team 2 of Series 8. This is because I believe the chances of a new series would be better than just the Geek Week episode. It would feature a team of boys from London applying to be on the show, arriving at the auditions, arriving at Anglia Television Studios and the show being made. I am also suggesting a Knightmare fan coming across a watch in a jewellers that is a time machine, which he intends to go back to the year 1994 to try and change history by attempting to reverse the outcome of the Corridor Of Blades so that the team would survive the obstacle and therefore face the Bhal-Shebah in the quest room and then their SAVANT escape. I have now accepted that the team would have had to incite Bhal-Shebah to argue with itself; I originally disregarded the Bhal-Shebah being in the quest room because I thought that the team wouldn't stand a chance against the dragon.

  • Series 8 Episode 4
    A avenueroad
    Series 8

Had the Jewish team survived the blades, I think they would have faced a mysterious character in the quest room, Lissard in reality (Lissard was sent by Lord Fear to stop them). He would have tried to trick the team into giving them a spell to summon Hordriss to get them out of the dungeon but in reality the spell would kill them. Note that Hordriss would have to be mentioned because the calling spell they were given at the Marblehead Docks permitted them to call Hordriss, even though they didn't meet him during their quest (the team members must have known about Hordriss before they applied to be on the show).

Regarding the calling spell, I believe they would have used it to call Hordriss in the side chamber. When Dunstan won, it turned out that the way out of Marblehead was through the sewers. So they must have been hidden or Majida would have nothing to worry about.
