  • Those early skulls...
    BrotherStrangeB BrotherStrange
    Series 3

Maybe it's because they look more like real skulls, with their empty eye sockets and "mouth".

I was watching James' quest yesterday, the poor lad didn't have much chance of surviving that chamber with TWO of the nasties chasing him!

I'd agree with that, very sinister. Up there with troll footsteps (S7 ans S8) for me, the way they get louder... or Aridane full stop!

  • Series 6 and 7 Dwarf Tunnels
    BrotherStrangeB BrotherStrange
    General Discussion

I loved all the Dwarf tunnels series 3 added a new twist to knightmare with them. also liked series 6/7 because you would either meet a friend or rather meet a nasty and there was more choice to move around. The series 8 were quite effective with snap dragons and encounters tho

I wasn't so keen on the S8 dwarf tunnels, less atmospheric and claustrophobic-- plus they were straight! I like S6 and S7 more, because you never knew what was around the next corner-- literally!

Wouldn't be sad at all. Why not?

Sounds like a great idea to me too! Allo Allo fans often have these conventions, Angela "Helga" Hartman and Richard "Herr Flick" Gibson frequently appear at them in costume!

  • Series 6 and 7 Dwarf Tunnels
    BrotherStrangeB BrotherStrange
    General Discussion

I quite agree with that assessment-- very atmospheric and foreboding-- loved the claustrophobia of them. I liked the way you could often hear Raptor/Skarkill roaming with his goblins. Shame Raptor never got a kill himself; I think it would have been better if Raptor had bumped Nicola off in S7 in an unlit dwarf-tunnel, rather than an obscure death.

Speaking of S7 and dwarf tunnels... Julie's quest on Level 2. After inspecting clues in the dwarf tunnels beyond the Rift of Anga, troll footsteps were used to hurry Julie along. How exactly would a troll fit in one of those tunnels [chuckle]?

  • Re-assessing Season 8; know what? I like it after all
    BrotherStrangeB BrotherStrange
    Series 8

*I see nobody likes the Short Cut bit

I think the short-cut would have worked if they had put more than one challenge in it. The COB, followed by Play Your Cards right-- then may be Trial by Spikes or reintroduction of a timed causeway-- before getting to Level 3?

    BrotherStrangeB BrotherStrange
    Series 8

My favourite feature of Series 8 was the miremen: Trolls would be too small to fit in the mireworld, not sure if goblins would be suited to that environment

You're forgetting miretrogs! Now THEY were scary.

I try to I thought the miretrogs were superfluous-- the trolls did that particular job excellently and were scarier than the miretrogs IMO.

I loved the scene where that Devonian team were trying to unlock the rune puzzle, and a troll was slowly closing in on them... that scared me as a 10-year-old anyway.

  • Lord Fears Intros season 6 to 8

I liked S7 the best. There was intrigue with "the great experiment", plus the humorous introduction of Lissard. It was like the beginning of a thriller.

S6 was quite good too, Lord Fear at his baleful best.

In one quest of Series 7, troll footsteps were used to hurry a dungeoneer up in a dwarf tunnel. How would a troll fit in a dwarf tunnel?

  • Series 6 - Episode 6
    BrotherStrangeB BrotherStrange
    Series 6

Just watching this episode today. Now I'm sure I've said this before on another thread, but I've got to say it again; Sidriss fancies the pants off Alan! I'm absolutely sure of it! She's feeling him up all the time when they first meet, and after he casts the BEAUTY spell, she keeps fluttering her eyelids at him and watching him out of the sides of her eyes. It's... slightly disturbing...

I thought it was just me. Considering Sidriss's character, she is normally tactile and friendly, especially with the teenage blokes-- even more so with Alan

Does Lord Fear have a seat in Parliament?

If the Mines of Gore were linked to Dunshelm Castle by a short dwarf tunnel, why didn't adventurers just go straight down there-- bypassing Level 1 and 2?

Because the Knightmare quests were to test challengers for knightly qualities. Sending them straight down to level three would bypass 2/3 of the challenge, and negate the achievement of even getting to level 3 - not every dungeoneer could say they managed that.

Thought as much By comparison, I just think Series 7 was better, in that they had to escape from the Sewers of Goth, but not using a tunnel.

Wellllllllllll... depends how bright their victims were...

True enough: With that in mind, Lord Fear hired dim minions because they were cheap, because he could get away with it

Just who does write all those scrolls?

Lord F did once say to Hordriss: "You're starting to believe your own scrolls". Hmm...

    Series 8

Majida is also far less obstructive or obstreperous than she was in season 7, while Brother Strange is far stranger than the generic hooded-man-of-mystery figure he was previously as well.

Now, I preferred BS in Series 7-- call me odd. I preferred him as a cool, enigmatic guardian-angel character who crept around. It's as if in Series 8 they had dosed him up on Prozac!

I do agree about Majida, I'm glad she had calmed down in Series 8. Honesty Batram I didn't mind, I can see they were trying to do a glib/wideboy trader-- Julius S meets Del Boy. Even Snapper Jack I found OK, in a 'scrig' way.

My favourite feature of Series 8 was the miremen: Trolls would be too small to fit in the mireworld, not sure if goblins would be suited to that environment-- miremen much better than the unscary "marching feet" too IMO

They were a visible and looming threat, and looked hideous too-- and managed to finish one quest off!

On an unrelated note I love how he reacts to Julie's death in Season 3: "Oooooh, ohh that is NASTY!!! I shouldn't look any more if I were you." It makes you wonder what the goblins had in mind for their captive.

Well Lord Fear once said in Se7: "Goblins, they tend to eat prisoners". So they perhaps had dinner in mind!

From what I gather we should look out Cliff Barry in EE, towards the end of this month.

I shall try to find out how long he is the soap long for, and who/what he plays...
