  • Silly question really but.....

    Newbie Welcome

Maybe not a general chat site, but on a couple of sites where I'm mates with some 20-something Brits, I know they're always up for a chat about how great Knightmare was.

Thjough funnily enough, I was telling a friend of mine down the pub about how I've been spending most of the couple of weeks rewatching most of the entire series, and all he could ask was "why?"... (that said, off the top of my head he's in his early 30's so probably too old to understand... >.> )

I'm with NTL too - had a few problems with viewing most pages on the site a couple of weeks ago, but could access the forums without trouble. Just checked the site, and I seem to be able to browse it without problems.

You have no lifelines, as this is not a game of numerous lifelines, here- you only have one.

Hehe... I likes that line a lot.

Back on a serious note, I guess one of the later questions (i.e. Q11-15) could be something like "How many quests did Motley appear during", or some other devious long-running -but-occasional character...

This is your only reasonable way of obtaining it for your own personal use.

You almost make it sound like cannabis...

tokes "Yeah, officer, I've got series 7 of Knightmare..." tokes "...only for my own personal use, you know..." tokes "...anyone got any Mini Cheddars?"

Could be worse... you could have some hoodies hanging round street corners trying to sell it...

"Yeah, mate. I've got some Knightmare, propa quality season 3 stuff too... got some Sattleite game if you want it... 'ere, it's the boys from Anglia - be cool, be cool..."

Than again, from what I've been seeing here on the threads about eBay, it's not too far from the truth... >.>

  • Series 8 - Episode 1

    Series 8

Well, as this episode suggests I'm from the land of dunces. That is, Bracknell. Or as I like to somewhat appropriately call it, Chavnell. Kinda unsurprising how a team from here wound up as the first Level 1 death in a long time... 😮

(Though that said, my brother and some friends had put together a team and IIRC applied for Season 9... had they got on, I'd have been surprised if they'd done a repeat performance...)

I've got to agree on the poster who disliked the opening sequence's (i.e. first scene w/ Treguard & Majida) lack of attention to "the watchers"; kinda detached the program from the viewers, which was something I'd enjoyed (I'm reminded of a scene where Pickle and Treguard talk about using the Spyglass, and mention "don't you ever feel like we're being watched?" before turning to the camera). Same with the banter at the end of each episode.

Hi all... I was around for a little while around a year or two back, then lost my service to Challenge so wandered off, but recently got back into Knightmare.

Anyhoo, on topic... I think Gibbet from Season 1 was a fairly weak character, as he really didn't do much; thwacked one dungeoneer, let one go with a password... I ca't remeber if Gumboil the Knight was in season 1 or not, but it seems it was gathered he could do Gibbet's job just as well.

As for Snapper Jack... okay, so he did go about it in an odd way, but the thing I liked was that he harked back to the old Wall Monster "3 riddles" style of trial. Ah Wok... well, at least it gave Lord Fear's actor a chance to put on more of his silly voices aside from his lovely mockery of Skarkill. He worked as a role of the "clear tradesman for the Powers That Be", and in a way his accent did give an interesting trial for some dungeoneers (he gave Hordriss's calling to one dungeoneer as "Marefact", and the team had to work out he meant "Malefact")...

Racks his brains for memories of Virtually Impossible

Mashes his head against desk in attempt to remember

...wasn't that on CITV at the same sort of time as Knightmare used to be? With games like "Tetris Towers" where they had to find as manay Tetris pieces as possible in the alloted time? If so, I remember that show... and I can see how the whole "Dungeoneer sees their view, dungeoneers see long-shot view" thing could work...

Earliest memory: jumping on Radza (my toy tiger) and yelling at the Dreadnaught, that commanded the password from Naila (I think it was series 7 )

...was the Dreadnaught still there in Series 7? O.o I know it was there in Season 6...

Don't worry - if your series 1 copy is an original broadcasting and has a few of the old adverts inbetween its all good a snippet of the TV past, if you like - as it was! I'm sure they'll show series 1 again at some point

Sadly not... it was a sh*te copy I got from one of the traders a couple of years back. It's almost entirely in balck & white, the sound quality's mostly terrible (don't even try listening to what the Wall Monsters are saying), and it's generally lacking in quality on the whole.

Oh well... guess just having a copy of it should be enough to be grateful for...

  • An Idea

It's illegal. You are NOT allowed to sell ANY copies of Knightmare whether on videotape, CD or DVD. There used to be a group of traders working to provide people with KM but that had to be stopped when copyright issues arised after somebody tried to sell episodes of Knightmare on Ebay for £40 each, or something along those lines.

It was all very upsetting for Knightmare fans, frightening for the traders and a lot of hassle for Tim Child who, unfortunately, had to be involved to help pass on the message, so however good the intentions are it really isn't advisable

    Ah... hadn't appreciated that.

Guess that means I'm stuck with my sh*tty copy of Season 1...

  • Best team?
    C Cull
    General Discussion

    Hmm...

    SEASON 1:

    • BEST: Team 6. Got really far, went through a decent number of perils, and only really made one mistake (not taking the Horn - although they were the first to reach L3 so didn't really have any clue on what to take).

    • WORST: Team 2. Very brief quest, little achieved in what time they had.

    • FAVOURITE: Team 6, for the same reasons as above.

    SEASON 2:

    • BEST: Tie between Teams 4 and 10. Both won, both were equally good at getting through the dungeon.

    • WORST: Team 6. Apologies to Akash, who I think would have been far better off on his own!

    • FAVOURITE: Team 10. A most exciting quest... I could say simply for their escape from Medusa. However, Team 3 come close. A valiant and exciting quest, and although they lost, they went out in arguably the best way!

    SEASON 3:

    • BEST: Team 11. Martin's quest felt far less flawed than Leo's... both went out in pretty much the same way (one riddle, one incorrect answer), but Martin seemed to be more succesful on his way to Level 3 than Leo.

    • WORST: Team 8. Obviously.

    • FAVOURITE: Team 11. Martin was a great dungeoneer, who gave an added "something" to the quests. Though Ross's quest was one I remember since first time it was shown, and it's always held a special place in me.

Have to do the others later...

I meant an anti-climax more in the way that all the big stuff happened before getting to Dooreen. I think it would have worked better if they'd had to get past Dooreen before Malice, since Malice is far scarier.

I somewhat agree about the anti-climax thing...  the final parts of that quest were pretty... dull compared  to the rest of level 3. I think Dooreen should have been at the beginning or middle of the level - or at least before some of the harder sections (such as the CoB). And don't get me started about the final room...

    "Where am I?"

"You're in a room with a Crown. Can you pick up the Crown please?"

    Dungeoneer picks up Crown

    "Congratulations, you've won!"

    ... how exciting. [/sarcasm]

  • Hey there
    C Cull
    Behind the Scenes

Yeah, greetings and all from me too - your team was one of my favourites from Series 3.

I'm a little torn between whether or not it was right for you to have lost there - you did miss out on that first step, and others had died because "they didn't get all the riddle info"... but even so, I was one of those glued to the set as you prepared your jump, muttering under my breath "make it, make it, make it, make it", then once you made the jump thinking "YES!". And then noticing your follow-up step that took you over the edge... just makes you want to grab and throw back your head and scream "Noooooooooooooooo"!

Ah well... it's always good to see more of the "Knightmare veterans" about on the board.

I didn't think much of the mournful Gargoyle in Series 3. And as for Ariadne: couldn't they have given her a voice to make her more interesting, like they did with Smirkenorff?

Nah... would probably turn out far too corny and reduce the frightening/creepy effect her presence produces (which his her ruling quality ).

Good point about the Blockers, though.

    Series 5

Whoops... seems after watching the repeat yesterday, I noticed something I missed before.

It wasn't exactly obvious, but this time round I did notice  Gwendoline saying they'd need to "bribe their way through Level 2" (or something to that effect). So... I guess the team weren't so hard pressed as I'd originally thought. I still think it was unfair that they were rushed... but they did also have fair warning of Ariadne's Lair, and that they'd need to be hasty there...

    Knightmare a la Maison

Cull: In the new series, Dungeoneers will be able to see anyway so I think the hands-on puzzle could be done. Regarding the morality ending, I think any team would do the right thing and rescue the maid - witness that team in series 2 who used FREE on Gretel instead of themselves, despite Treguard advising them otherwise.

Good point about the team using FREE.

But as for your suggestion fo the dungeoneer being able to see... well, sorry for sounding like a skipping 2 Unlimited record, but no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO! You can't get rid of the whole "Helmet of Justice blindfolding the Dungeoneer" concept  - that's part of what made the team work so vital to the quests success... otherwise, you may as well not bother with the advisors. And then you'd just be watching the dungeoneer wander about the dungeon themself... which sounds to me like Knightmare being dragged down to reality TV levels! 😮 I never was happy about them bringing in things like Insight potions and spells so the dungeoneer could "see " their way round a room - beforehand, good team would be able to guide their dungeoneer perfectly well without help, and poor teams who couldn't were rightly killed off - letting the dungeoneer see is almost a cheat's way out of this in my eyes.
