I have only watched a few things on ITVX and I only ever tinkered a little bit with BritBox. Of course I was thrilled that Knightmare appeared on BritBox (I have no idea whether or not it still is) but I also think it would be a fantastic addition to ITVX. I'm sure Knightmare would be a big hit on the service/app as people who are fans would watch (as long as it had enough advertising) and hopefully there would be enough people watching who sort of remember it or just stumble across it by chance. Anywhere that Knightmare can be shown officially would of course get my full backing (for what it's worth) and it could pave the way for more fantastic CITV classics to have new permanent home. In fact, I'm surprised there isn't a ton of them available already.

Hello!! First post in I dread to think how long. Series three is often seen as the series and there is a great case to be made for it as it has everything quintessentially "Knightmare" about it. As for the team in question, they were indeed the only full team from "Up The Road" and while it does seem that they were were helped (As several teams obviously were) I often found that the first team of a new season often had the worst of it, especially if there had been drastic changes to the Dungeon from one season to the next. Here is series 3 I loved the mixture of old character and locations with a few new onces. So while Gavin and his men came up short in their quest it was a fantastic start to a fantastic series.

Interesting, but I don't think gamebook technology has really moved on in the last few decades. Aside from supplying some props that allow interaction with the book (e.g. to reveal words in a word jumble) and generally "writing well", I don't know what scope there would be for improvement.

I love how the boys from St Helens don't look remotely like their 2023 counterparts I see on the bus occasionally! Great find.

I also came here to say Series 6. Even though a few elements that I love about older Knightmare are lost by Series 6, I do think the series as a whole has become slick and interesting by this point. The episodes are faster-paced, the quests contain longer running "plots" that continue through numerous rooms, and the introduction of the atmospheric/tension music really helps to kill the "boring" feel of some of the earlier episodes. Some of those early episodes are so still and quiet, that when a dungeoneer is being slow it's painstaking. With the introduction of the sinister music it really helps to make the adventure feel more exciting. I think for a modern 2023 person who'd never seen the show before, they'd really struggle getting through more than a couple of episodes of Series 1. However, if you could make them fall in love with the "higher production value" of Series 6 then they'd be more likely to want to go back and see how it all began.

How dark! And as the OP said, a little inconsistent with what we're told/shown happens to dungeoneers. But not REALLY because it can simply be explained away as a different reality.

In general that's probably true, but I wouldn't say so with Lillith; the path still went through the Serpent's Mouth Cavern in season 3, but Lillith had gone. Oh true she was a bad example haha. Maybe she was in the toilet.

Im working on a new Knightmare Gamebook project that I plan to may turn to an app or into a book, but im having trouble coming up with a combat system that works, any suggestions. Im trying to keep in tone freindly to the original books but at the same time suitable for a more modern reader. The "combat" they have in the books is very simple and not sure if it would stand up today

This is my favourite episode of the series. I do think the return and final return of the skull and the life force beats an the pause when game ends is very dramatic and Treguard gets time to give an excellent Ooh nasty - one of his best i feel. Miss Morgaine did enjoy this one

Funnily enough, I had no memory of it when Canadanne mentioned it earlier, but I do now dimly remember watching a few episodes of it. At the time, I associated McCoy only with Tiswas and Jigsaw, so it had to be before he became the 7th Doctor, although I didn't recall the series being as early as 1984; if pressed I'd have said about 1986 or 87. Roger Sloman is the host, and you might recognise him from plenty of TV in the 1980s and 90s, especially playing bureaucratic, by-the-book types, or yokelly farmer figures. Remember Three Fingered Pete from the sixth episode of The Black Adder? "Good shot! Looks like I'm going to have to... cheat." That was him. The odd thing about Starstrider in this episode is that he looks like he's wearing Lord Fear's cloak, while, unfortunate sign of the times, blacking up as Ah Wok! Another sign of the times is the kids in the audience laughing much too loudly under clear instruction from the floor manager whenever something silly happens. Notice how the contestant on the bucking buffalo gets away with saying The Rocky Mountains are in South Africa, then changing it to South America, and she is still given the point, even though the Rockies are of course in NORTH America. The only regular round I can remember is the one where the have to walk on the lit up slabs. Step on a pink slab you score ten points, step on a white one you lose ten. The only other thing I very vaguely remember for some reason is a scene in one instalment where Wart (SlyMac's character) tries to find a purpose for a toffee apple, and Starstrider tries to explain that Wart has to "put it in himself," which seems decidedly naughty for a kids' show. They come from a planet where no one eats, where eating is a completely abstract concept, and so Wart spends the whole show experimenting with stuffing the stick up his nose, and in other places, before inadvertently eating the apple and finding he rather likes the sensation of taste. In short, not a terribly good show. And no, getting actually to the point; I have no memory at all of ANY episode I saw in which someone fell into lava. But then I doubt that I saw all the episodes, it wasn't exactly the highlight of my viewing week.

With apologies for repeatedly 'Devonising' my answers, (hey, it's the place I know best!) have you looked at Brixham in Torbay? There's a full-size replica of Sir Francis Drake's flagship, the Golden Hind, there. I'm not sure if I've come across that one before (doesn't really ring a bell). It doesn't appear to be a match, though it's hard to be sure as sometimes bits get replaced over the years - I'd have to see what it looked like in 1992. I keep wondering if the filming of it that year had something to do with the anniversary of Columbus' voyage, as there were various replicas of his ships around at the time, but I haven't seen one that looks the same.
