Not sure if you mean the original TV series that started in 1987 and lasted regrettably only 6 or 7 years thereafter or the entire franchise as a whole. I'd like to think it applies to all things Knightmare and Tim Child's idea and production to make it a reality that continues to this day.

It's such a shame the series not only didn't survive beyond the early / mid 1990's and that a DVD collection release never seemed obtainable. We've had spin offs and online parodies that while fun and offer a certain intrigue, just can't match the enthralment or experience of the original series. Maybe it's down to age perspective as things just aren't the same as you remember them but for what's it worth I take the opportunity to offer and provide all things Knightmare a sincere anniversary mention.

Surely there's an event planned for next year to mark the 40 year turning. Hugo Myatt and all surviving cast members hopefully get together and provide something like a fan access day. It sounds plausible but not sure how far they'll actually get with it.

It would be a shame to see the existing design go as it's something I've used and known for some years now but as with many things change is sometimes inevitable and at least I look forward to seeing what the technical team can put together. If it makes things easier or more accessible or if there's additional features or increased member interaction capability then rather grudgingly you have to accept it's for the better.

The important thing is of course is that a place for the Knightmare series actually exists outside of both TV and literary format where enthusiasts such as we have here can interact and get involved. I won't be 100 per cent happy with the proposed change if it goes ahead but as already stated it's a case essentially of moving with the times and I accept some of the features here may be in need of improvement where moving to a new up to date fan forum is the only answer.

I don't always participate now as much as would like to due to other commitments but do look in time and again to see what's new being discussed. Viewed the forum change article just now by way of example and felt the need to reply.

We had relatives near Telford. Haven't visited since the 1980's but unfortunately as with many things they change. Many years ago we'd stay over and walk fields nearby with clear views of the Welsh hills but since then it's been largely ruined by house and planning development. I don't remember much from all those years back other than it was so much better and a fun place to be.

Do you remember the Earthquake they had around there, must be 40 years ago by now or thereabouts. Not a major tremor but it was big news at the time, something totally unprecedented for the area. It's only a vague memory.

I wonder if a minimum age actually exists where you can or can't watch Knightmare. It can't be suitable for all ages. Today you have all manner of shows, streamings, downloads and heaven knows what else where I'd imagine younger viewers get to participate or follow along. Comes with a (mandatory) warning of "contains mild peril" or something of that nature. Trouble is 2023 is so far detached from 30 - 35 years ago, people's perceptions will have changed.

r.e. 'mild peril' : Which essentially is what Knightmare was about or represents. Back in the late 1980's I'd watch the series while still of school age. It didn't perturb, it didn't unnerve, but would have thought at the time "this isn't maybe suitable for everyone". I suppose even today that still holds true or carries a certain weight behind it.

We went to put it on the other day, Channel 203 Freeview, and only got a blank screen saying it's no longer there. Says it can be seen on something called "ITVX". We don't have that channel built in so assume it's only available on-line. We won't actively pursue to continue watching.

CITV really did put on a host of entertaining shows not just for kids but older viewers too. The animated Mr Bean series was in fact far more amusing and entertaining than the real 'grown up' one and I used to try and watch Mr Magoo, Fizz, Weasel (and Mr Cat) each episode it was on. Never was one for Scooby Doo although believe it's still available albeit on a different kids channel.

Never heard of Britbox before now. Did some research and doesn't really appeal. For one thing you have to subscribe to view, not available on terrestrial television and most importantly I'd only be buying to see Knightmare on it, most others shows they have available wouldn't really be of interest or you could just as easily catch them on a regular service. Add to that people mention only Series 4 is available right now, in an ideal world I'd like to start from the very beginning and take it from there. I know any DVD release is as yet not available but to just subscribe and start watching one series after jumping forward largely unaware of the previous three is something of a no no. If they were to broadcast regularly from the shows beginning in 1987 (?) to the end of series I'd most likely jump at the chance to check it out, however for the reasons stated don't think I'll be taking this particular opportunity up. I looked on the main website for it but it doesn't seem to be there. It was an A-Z of Knightmare, a glossary of characters, items and such that you could find out requisite series information. A good learning experience but been a while since last viewed and can't recall a great many of it right now.

Just seen the thread goes back a number of years and maybe there's something outdated that is no longer in use. Sorry I seem to be struggling a bit here but it can be tricky to navigate the pages at times or find specifically what you're after. Pay no notice.

This was something you didn't expect. Don't log-in much but the new design certainly put a new slant on things. May take a few further visits to get used to the changed lay-out. The colour difference should make posting and reading more accessible but never thought I'd see such change when visiting the forum once again.

I'm in the older bracket if you can call it where remember and watched the original run from late 80's / early 90's. Yes it provides a certain advantage over the younger generation in that you were a part of it but re-runs

on Freeview are few and far between now and Youtube can be problematic if you're on a Pay as you Go contract.

Wasn't aware of these items, in fairness have never been compelled to purchase series items (or) from what was listed. Own a number of the books / literature episodes but as for wanting actual merchandise you can wear and present around the house, not something that has ever really come to mind. Is twenty pounds for a Series doormat a little expensive ? Yes it's a unique item to own but even so.

Of course my number one wish for buying items would be to have the series available on Blu Ray / DVD if possible. Something tangible that you can watch over and over again but realise it's not possible for whatever reason. Frustrating but all the same that's not to say it won't ever see the light of day.

I couldn't find any mention of it in previous threads for this and sorry if duplicated anything not read but a few days ago watched Time Bandits for the first time. A very critically acclaimed film with names from the Monty Python team behind it but point being there were certain similarities with the Knightmare series.

For one (spoilers alert) there's a spyglass effect with the main villain (with one of two adversaries) keeping watch on the heroes or team trying to prevail with a water effect in a pool. Reminded me of Lord Fear straight away. Secondly a ghostly head that appears speaking out and warning the team that was very similar to Mogdred in the earlier episodes. A knight on horseback appears at the near beginning in a woodland setting that also offered intrigue. It's obviously set in the past hence the film title with various surroundings taking place in bygone eras.

I wondered if Tim Child or one of the producers took notice of the film and developed a concept on what I had watched. It was about six years before Knightmare actually started it's run on TV but wouldn't they have had to ask for the rights to go ahead with it or find consent from the makers of the film itself.

I'll give it another watch when able but the more I sat through it the more I accepted there were clear similarities between the film and the series itself.

Viewed it again, the third or fourth time now. Seriously, can't see any monster feature as the author describes. Looks like a weather front above all else, you know, a picture of the Atlantic with a lot of cloud cover. Tried looking at it upside down and it appears that a pair of eyes are prevalent but not much else with it. Sorry guys but not much to see here.

Endlessly is hard to fathom, you get the idea they discussed day and night about the prospect of bringing the series back but I don't think it's as clear cut as that. I'll be truthful I hardly watch Challenge, the Chase and Who Wants to be a Millionaire is OK now and again for general knowledge purposes but there's endless repeats of Bullseye (I must have seen every series) and then things like Family Fortunes, Wheel of Fortune and Pointless where interest is minimal at best.

Any DVD release seems never to occur, if it hasn't been introduced already then perhaps it never will so that only leaves specific freeview channels and Challenge seems best bet. I don't use Youtube (to watch the old series) as on pay as you go contracts and it uses up too much credit to really get involved as I would like.

When was Knightmare even on freeview regularly ? I think maybe six, seven years ago but even then it was only one or two episodes back to back. Not nearly enough to satisfy real enthusiasts of the show.

I don't believe there's a market for the idea you suggest. I mean look at the other franchises mentioned in the above, the pull and attraction far outweighs our show. Surely it's not a viable venture - as much as we'd like to see it.

As mentioned on another post just now, the Knightmare series would seem too obscure to the casual or impartial viewer. They haven't (as yet) brought out any DVD releases as a case in point, which is a great pity, but from a business perspective you can kind of understand the reasoning.

Watched the clip yesterday and agree the video didn't seem as it should. It's a shame Knightmare didn't feature more prominently at the event you attended but I think fans (actual fans) of the show are few and far between. We're something of a unique crowd so to speak.

Didn't watch many childrens programmes in the 90's. Other than Knightmare of course. The Crystal Maze as mentioned would be an exception. Never the same once Richard O Brien left it, but at least they introduced some new rooms to explore, and with it, a whole new zone I remember.

That was impressive. They still look as sinister as fan creations as they do on the programme.

Hadn't even given it a thought until now. The occasion just passed me by. It's an American thing isn't it. Not really celebrated in the UK, not sure of the origins of it all.

It's where something repeats itself over and over. If I had my way that would be Knightmare on television every day of the year.

It's absurd that Knightmare isn't included in the initial list, can only imagine whoever put together the shows presented had never seen an episode of our great programme. Newsround was a strange choice for number 3, can remember it from the 1980s with John Craven, but it's (or was) an information program, not so much a show for children ?

Furthermore no room for inclusion programmes like Button Moon, The Flumps or Moomins (that I can recall from an earlier age) Relief that Rainbow was in it, but at position 30 ? , Yes it's that kind of list.

Was still at school when the series first aired but had left when it went off air at the end of it's run. Can remember waiting to get home to see an episode and remember vividly one team in 1990 actually won a quest on my Birthday, it was as good as any card or present. Shame it only survived for seven years, why this is I don't know, either they ran out of ideas or Anglia TV lost the rights to view, or by 1994 it had simply lost pace with other children themed shows of the time and seemed old or outdated.

The biggest regret is there aren't enough re-runs on any of the retro channels of today and that a DVD of the entire series hasn't yet been made available.

Other than chosen clips from Youtube, have not viewed the original series in 'proper format' i.e. on a TV broadcast, since the original run in the early 1990's. By this I mean the latter series of the program, from 4 and beyond for example.

Therefore it's (often) awkward on specific areas of the program to make comment as others will possess a far more extensive knowledge having taking in shows more recently and in their entirety. Point I wanted to make was that from all collective viewing I could at this moment ascertain, I did like the earliest of the shows as they had some characters that at the time did provide genuine fear but as the years went by, the Series got a little too advanced and the technology of the day maybe caused override on the supposed fundamentals of the show. True by the mid-point of the Knightmare series, there were a lot of new characters and situations to indulge, but looking back now I never really took to Lord Fear as one example, or Treguards shift from an impartial observer, to one that frequently aided the team and applauded every mistake or setback the opposition would incur.

Obviously the different quest objectives they eventually brought to the show rather than just one prize goal from Series 1 was a nice touch but in truth, until somebody can provide that much needed DVD set to take in ALL that occurred, it's once again awkward to speak out on an issue such as this.

Say one thing, whatever series the Corridor of Blades was introduced, I'm prepared to vote on that as being a favourite set of episodes, easily one of the best and enthralling set-ups of the entire franchise. Not to mention the "outdoor" scenes, where the dungeoneer could venture into Forest glades and Castle ruins for examples, (where wolf howls and other sinister sounds could be heard), god forbid the Series had run for the entire duration where the team were restricted to the interior of the dungeon and it's interior.
