37 years ago, on September 7th 1987, the path was open and Knightmare was born.

Thank You again to Tim Child, the cast, the crew and of course the Dungeoneers for creating and producing such a wonderful, groundbreaking piece of television.

Cheers to all of us who remain fans of The Greater Game to this day.

As for being too young, yes I can see Knightmare being a bit much for a 2 and a half year old, although I was still 5 when I watched episode 1 (It aired a week before my 6th Birthday) and some it was scary, but I guess it was supposed to be!

So maybe wait another yaer of two before setting her on "The Path"

Having been out of the Knightmare "loop" for a while, I have only just found out.

A commanding presence in any show he appeared in, and his bringing to life of Hordriss was of course perfection!!

It's always so interesting to see actors from our favourite shows before we knew them...

The first image does actually look rather a lot like Hugo!

I was also impressed at how "right" some of the AI story was, both to the show and to the books.

The tower, the "many dangers" and, for those that have read the books, Treguard was a soldier, albeit a Crusading mercenary in charge of a band of ne'er do wells, but still...

The Boy turned out alright in the end!!

I'm sure, like Draco in 'Dragonheart' we will see Smirky if we simply "Look to the stars..."

I was a huge fan of GamesMaster, especially the earlier series and have quite a few episodes on VHS.

A comprehensive, tangible history would indeed be a fantastic thing to have.

Several excellent points have been made however, as to why this would seem unlikely.

Cost is one thing and time is another.

As much as we all adore Knightmare, sometimes a show has simply just "had it's time" despite how good or even groundbreaking and influential it was.

Sadly, Knightmare hasn't become a 'Mr. Men', 'Thunderbirds', 'Sooty' or 'Thomas The Tank Engine' which keep being repeated and even today have new episodes in regular production.

Even GamesMaster has been revived and rebooted a time or two.

While Knightmare has been repeated on a couple of channels over the years, and has plenty of clips on the ITV Children's Classics youtube channel, it has received next to no mainstream support.

There was a great amount of buzz surrounding the showing of two episodes as part of CITV'S 'Old Skool Weekend', the 'Geek Week' episode and of course the convention, but this was all a decade ago and very little has happened since.

Series 4 appearing on BritBox Was also wonderful, but that too seems to have been rather quickly forgotten about.

I say all that to say while Knightmare does indeed have many old fans, who I'm sure would want to buy the book and perhaps even support it's production without it being readily available (Officially at least) it might be more expensive than it's worth if Knightmare isn't creating/getting any new fans or isn't anything more than a faint, if pleasant memory.

Though I don't wish to appear negative, so it would be an amazing project, and with next year being the 30th anniversary of the final "Time Out" who knows what could happen.

I have only watched a few things on ITVX and I only ever tinkered a little bit with BritBox.

Of course I was thrilled that Knightmare appeared on BritBox (I have no idea whether or not it still is) but I also think it would be a fantastic addition to ITVX.

I'm sure Knightmare would be a big hit on the service/app as people who are fans would watch (as long as it had enough advertising) and hopefully there would be enough people watching who sort of remember it or just stumble across it by chance.

Anywhere that Knightmare can be shown officially would of course get my full backing (for what it's worth) and it could pave the way for more fantastic CITV classics to have new permanent home.

In fact, I'm surprised there isn't a ton of them available already.

First post in I dread to think how long.

Series three is often seen as the series and there is a great case to be made for it as it has everything quintessentially "Knightmare" about it.

As for the team in question, they were indeed the only full team from "Up The Road" and while it does seem that they were were helped (As several teams obviously were) I often found that the first team of a new season often had the worst of it, especially if there had been drastic changes to the Dungeon from one season to the next.

Here is series 3 I loved the mixture of old character and locations with a few new onces.

So while Gavin and his men came up short in their quest it was a fantastic start to a fantastic series.

Before time turns and we leave 2021 to it's own devices, I wanted to post a 30th anniversary look at The Sorcerer's Isle.

Released in 1991, this is the 4th in the series of Knightmare books, there being 7 in total and in many ways this is my most favourite of them all.

I was 10 when this came out, and it made for a most welcome Birthday present indeed.

I posted a retrospective of the first Knightmare book 'Can You Beat The Challenge?' in which I said the Knightmare and that book in particular kick started my obsession with history.

The Sorcerer's Isle went some way further in cementing that obsession.

As with all the books, this is half novella and half 'Choose Your Own Adventure' style delve in the the dungeon.

The basic outline sees Treguard living in the Holy Land, when his house is ascended upon by a young woman and her warrior companion.

Is is claimed that the warrior is none other that Lancelot, Arthur's greatest Knight and champion, somehow having been reanimated after having been dead for around 700 years.

The reason for Lancelot being in the Holy Land and indeed seeking out Treguard is to find nothing other than the Holy Grail.

This takes this takes them all throughout southern Arabia, including what we now know as Oman and Yemen.

Meeting various characters along the way, Treguard and his companions, also including Pickle and a guide called Ghazi, they are pursued by Treguard's old enemy Rupert of Armitage, now a Templar.

After much struggle and hardship they eventually find themselves on and Island lair of an ancient Sorcerer, but they are not alone.

They face a battle with a Demon.

Lancelot does not survive.

But there is a twist.

Erica, who Lancelot had been accompanying turned out to be none other than Morganna Le Fay, a witch and half sister to King Arthur.

Lancelot, was not the legendary warrior, but Morganna's own son. They had possessed two others so that they may live again.

I'm always struck by how much Arthur plays a part in the world of Knightmare.

Rupert of Armitage makes one final appearance before he himself is killed.

Treguard and Pickle return the Grail to England.

It's difficult to say how much I have loved this book. In many ways, it is the most well written of all the Knightmare books, and all of the characters, even the minor ones flesh out the story magnificently.

A couple of my favourite segments are when Treguard and Co meet with the Bedouin tribe, as I always wonder what became of them afterwards.

I also enjoy the segment when they meet with Zaman the wise Man and we learn what became of the Grail.

While 'Can You Beat The Challenge' got me interested in history, and Arthur, 'The Sorcerer's Isle' deepened that obsession and sparked my great passion for the Crusades and was my first introduction to what we now refer to as the Middle East and Arabia.

The 'Adventure' section is well worth playing through as well.

So thank You again Dave Morris for writing such a wonderful book and for helping to shape my lifelong obsession with history.

Yes, I've always liked this look for Treguard.

While his costume changed every couple or series or so, I think this 'alternative' costume gave us a glimpse of another side of the character.

Perhaps this was how he dressed during his 'time off' from hosting Quests...

Yes, it is indeed wonderful that we now have a legal and hopefully permanent way to watch Knightmare again.!

Here's hoping that this is just a litmus test for the eventual adding of the other series...
