The volta, or "turn," in poetry is a rhetorical shift in argument, tone, or emotion, which is frequently signaled by transition words, most notably

"but"... This shift is particularly prevalent in sonnets, where it serves as a crucial hinge point — often marking the transition... or introducing the final couplet.

I don't suppose many children would've thought of this (if it was even intended), either in the studio or at home watching.

It seems to me that someone who's well-read would allude to those archetypes intuitively, if not intentionally, due to their prevalence in literature.

The 'crouching on the floor' idea came from the production team through Pickle's direction, not us (undoubtedly to make it more exciting). Otherwise, we'd probably just have moved Giles laterally, which would've been slicker and less complicated than him thinking he needed to crouch down again each time (which, of course, wasn't necessary at all).

I am really sorry to read this news, particularly after meeting Clifford in the studio canteen during the filming of season 4. I respected his professionalism, appreciated his characterisation of 'Oakley' when we encountered him during our quest, and enjoyed tracking the development of Hordriss through to the last episode of the last season - from aloof 'neutrality' towards a dynamic member of the 'powers that be'.

Yeah, that would be good to see. I'm guessing it was some kind of genuine Gaelic/Scottish though.

Thank you for your reply, AriadnesLayer. I understand cameras can store direction and position pretty well today. I agree the sequences could sometimes have been faster (DASH notwithstanding!). I suppose I just wonder whether they could have recorded several versions of connecting sequences to increase the variety. Possibly the colour editing would have been a time constraint on doing that, not so much the original recording in the field.

With series 7, I found it a little strange how the sequence would appear to go somewhere, and then fairly abruptly turn 90 degrees into a portal, on quite a few occasions - at least, that's my overall memory and impression of it.

They wanted to know how it was done - what was real and what was not. Earlier this year, we had a trip to 'Wolfenden', too (https://www.wealddown.co.uk/).

There was a moment a couple of years ago when our children were helping me to defeat a certain baddie (Jarvis) in a dungeon (the Cryptic Crypt) towards the start of Dragon Quest XI (a turn-based Japanese Role-Playing Game) when for a second I felt like I was playing KM again.
